K daylilies 2024
Show us your K daylilies today. I only have two but planted two more K’s last season….hope to see blooms on them this summer.
Bad weather continues here. Last evening brought freezing rain with hazardous sidewalks, side streets and parking lots. Main roads were ok. Tonight we have fog with very low visibility.….stayed home today.
How was your westher the past two days?
Kansas Kitten had nice blooms last season just not enough.
Kissed by Moonlight did a bit better last season, had a few more buds. The color varied from day to day. This photo is more pink, some blooms were more lavender. Thanks, Debra!

3 months agolast modified: 3 months agoHeavy rains and temps in the 60s will quickly take care of the remaining patches of ice and snow! Freezing rain and ice are the worst, Sherry!!!
Not many Ks here either.
Kensington Plantation was a bonus plant. I really like it.

Kirsten's Corsage is pretty but not the best plant, low bud count, etc.
Karen's Curls great bloomer but leans a bit
Kent's Favorite Two is quite reliable and can endure the sun.

Comments (18)Mystery of the Ages here had few blooms; didn't like last summer. Money Maker was nice its first year here, but the last two have had question marks. Memphis has been quite reliable here, though subpar last year. Margo Reed Indeed--what can I say? The "slight" defect of blooming just above the foliage is not slight here. Nor is its bloom compelling in an era of Isabelle Rose. I had someone asking for it and tried to convince him to choose something else, but he was persistent. It may have more merits farther south. Martha Edson Norris --showy, but indeed short by nature. Mitch Lynd--heavily budded, but blooms don't seem to crowd each other out. Mama Drama --subpar the past year; picture from 2022 Man of Sorrows --subpar. Needed to be divided too. Out of Joan Derifield Makayla Jenelle --don't know why it is not more widely grown. Boatwright Mai Tai --nice the past year; not a fast multiplier here Morning Mood --subpar year. A favorite here, but not widely grown. Pic from earlier year. Mahogany Magic from 2022. Bad year the past summer. Mary's Gold --a beacon in the later garden, rivaling Bill Norris in this color. Magic Lace. I still have this one, though David appears to have deleted it. Memphis this past summer --bud count can be modest, but flowers are consistent showstoppers. Mister Butters produced this picture past summer. Mary Lightfine, an evergreen, actually liked the past summer. Those that outperformed last year may not like more "typical" summers (if one dares to use "typical" anymore). This is the parent of Mary's Baby--hence, the name. And Mary's Baby this year, a subpar year. Minnesota Nice was subpar compared with this pic from 2022. It needs to be divided. Comments (12)Night Moves looks like a very rich color. Natty Man makes a nice clump, but wasn't like 2022. I like it a lot. Natalie Antoinette is a reliable Stamile with modest bud count. Flowers are usually perfect. Native Reflection is an attractive purple with eyezone, but catch it before noon. Night Wings was subpar, but I did capture the color quite closely in this pic. New Covenant I fear will be short, but 2023 wasn't a year to judge. Navajo Pony can look good. Neon Flamingo had a subpar year, but did give a good pic. No Boys Allowed is from 2022. Bud count is modest here. This January only one in five days had any sun. And almost half the days had some precipitation. Gloom. Comments (16)I see that To God Be the Glory is a huge bloom out of Seminole Wind. Tangerine Tickles is an appealing color (a Grossman). I also like the colors of Thundering Voice (seldom see it pictured) and the peachy pink tones of These Foolish Things. After years of hearing the praises of The Bride of Dracula, I ordered it. Tyger River, a bonus, has not performed well. 29 Flags over Conway looked pretty good last year. Thelma Douglas has had crowded scapes and hang-ups. Also, short last year. I am now wary of its progeny. Individual flowers can be beautiful. The X Files is a striking flower. I am waiting to evaluate plant habit. The King is Coming has not been a fast increaser (Carpenter), but had some nice blooms last summer. Not tall. The Goldilocks Effect is an older Hanson. Had an off year, but I wonder why it isn't more widely grown, as it has an intensity greater than other polychromes I know. Tattered Heart had such a good year in 2022 (pictured), but much less impressive this past summer (to the right is Drew Hoo). I too like Thomas Tew (good taller scapes). Sib Christopher Moody was shorter with lower bud count. Tahiti Sweetie looked good last summer. It sometimes has lighter spots on segments. The sun shot adds a glisten, but it stands out. Teeth of Iron --slow increase Tactical Deception --vigorous and attractive smoky color. Hanson. Tao of Physic --looked better last summer than in prior years Emmerich's Truth Teller. Held up better in sun this year. Tickle Fingers --so far, less vigorous than some other Davissons The Dream Society had a very good year. Later blooming. Twitch --a more recent Davisson Tahitian Waterfall Two Sues had an off year. Tonight's the Night --rich color. Wish it were a bit larger, but nicely ruffled. Comments (19)Good to see that Works for Me grows well for you, Kate. Its bud count is not impressive, but it is a welcome earlier bloomer. Wrenetta Powell died in a pot here. A Petit. Works for Me in a previous year. It was so-so this past year. When You Get to Asheville --This one is quite attractive and has good plant habit (pic 2023). Worlds Collide --large flower that didn't bloom in 2023 Winter Treasure --so-so year. Not a fast multiplier. All pics from 2023 unless noted. Willow Dean Smith. From 2022. Recently divided White Icon. A Derrow that is very white and large, but not a fast multiplier. Wayne's World. A Hanson, no more than 5". 2022 Another pic of Wild Cherry Wine. Subpar, but recently divided. Wall of Fire --subpar 2023 Web of Intrigue. Looked good last year. An older cultivar. Warmer Climes --good grower, but poor year for this Derrow Also subpar was Wild Red Heart. Wine in the Gazebo --Hanson that was subpar. Wispy Rays --Recently divided and subpar. Can have off years. 3 months agoWarm temps (50s) and light rain yesterday finally washed away all the snow and ice, and I was finally able to get to the grocery store. It's raining hard and windy today. Rain is forecast for the rest of the week, which could cause localized flooding, but will probably get us out of drought conditions.
Here are my K's:
Kara Louise lost fans last year and was shorter than usual.
Kentucky Lucky had a good season with at least one scape with 20 buds.
Kindred Jewel was very short last year and had some thrip trouble. It's never done well where I have it planted.
Kingdom Without End has never multiplied much for me.
Kiss of Paradise didn't bloom much last season.

3 months agoIt's in the low 50's here with drizzle. Freezing rain was predicted for yesterday, but we ended up not getting any. That's ok with me. The ice is the worst.
Kennesaw Crossfire has interesting color (when it's not splotchy like this one is), but it's not a very good performer here.
I really like King Crab.
Klaatu Barada Nikto is a good performer, but I don't love the flower. Bob does so it stays.
Here is Krakatoa Katie trying to double. Most of the blooms were single this season.

3 months agolast modified: 3 months agoI got King Crab a while back; am eagerly awaiting its first bloom. Kingdom Without End is not a fast multiplier, but it has been divided once. Kensington Plantation, I see, is out of Victorian Lace. Very interesting. Kansas Kitten is a good performer here.
Katherine Caldwell is an earlier bloomer. Not a rapid multiplier.
Kiss My Aura looks like a bitone, though it is not registered as such. Around 5.5 inches. Out of Enchanting Esmerelda, but usually better height.
The old Killer. Modest bud count.
Katherine Marin was not as good as in 2022. Picture from 2022. Good height. Sometimes doubling, which I find less appealing.
Kingdom Bound is in my view a superior cultivar in regard to color, bud count, and height.
Kingdom Without End after division the previous year
Emmerich's King of the Ages, a later bloomer. Moderate increase. Good height.
Kansas Kitten in 2022 before division.
Kansas City Kicker --a shorter Salter out of Sabine Baur. Color can be quite nice (and cleaner than Sabine), but didn't like 2023.
King Kahuna --it is a nice double, though short.

KIWI MAGIC: This is a great pony sized daylily. Well budded and branched.
