Comments (18)Sherry--Heavenly Hidden Treasure also looks good here. Last season it was a bit on the short side. I like that green throat on Heavenly Breezes. Her Best Bloomers certainly has an intense color in your pic. Nancy--I am glad to see the Hillside cultivars. I see the posts of Mussar on Facebook, where he details all the work that goes into hybridizing, including tilling and weeding along with indoor growing. Heavenly Grave Digger looks interesting, but yes, the name--it really makes me cringe when joined with "heavenly". I'll take some of the Hanson names any day. Heavenly Christmas Cactus is supposed to double half way through the season. Would be interested in seeing a pic of the doubling. David--I like the picture of Have a Heart, and I see it is taller than some Bennetts. I have not seen it on your list of favorites, though. Debra--Hillbilly Heart looks good in your garden, but performance (years ago) was poor here. Hearts that Care is a clear shade--a Holley evergreen, I see. Brad--Highland Pinched Fingers is a nice landscaping cultivar, with taller scapes and eye-catching color. It is in the Urgent Care bed here, but deer were a problem last summer (even with nightly spraying). Maryl--Heartless here looks just like your pic, but I am wondering what it will look like in a clump. Honky Tonk Barbie was too short here to suit me, but probably ideal for a pot. Not much rebloom here, but I think you said that rebloom scapes are taller. Handwriting on the Wall was the best I have seen it. Baffled why a minority of cultivars seemed to like the 2023 winter/spring. Heman is tall and looked quite good last summer. Petit's Half Moon Key actually performed better. Hush Little Baby always attracts enough attention to stay. Heavenly Bombshell, a parent of C Cactus. Heavenly Dragon Fire --a very iridescent shade of orange. Some people automatically dismiss all oranges in a single category. Harper's Bazaar has been short at the estate, with its peculiar challenges (like growing next to bordering boxwood). So I have moved it. I constantly have to roll down umbrellas that someone has unfurled next to the pool. Heartless is a bright color, but plant habit is unknown. Heavenly Dark Matter --earlier color display Heavenly Explosion --more tailored flower but not as vigorous. Heavenly Star Fire --early, large, and tall. Not a fast multiplier here. Heavenly United We Stand got disturbed by the fence painting. Peace with neighbor was more important. Heavenly Tiger Tails is a vigorous earlier bloomer. Recently moved....See MoreM daylilies 2024
Comments (18)Mystery of the Ages here had few blooms; didn't like last summer. Money Maker was nice its first year here, but the last two have had question marks. Memphis has been quite reliable here, though subpar last year. Margo Reed Indeed--what can I say? The "slight" defect of blooming just above the foliage is not slight here. Nor is its bloom compelling in an era of Isabelle Rose. I had someone asking for it and tried to convince him to choose something else, but he was persistent. It may have more merits farther south. Martha Edson Norris --showy, but indeed short by nature. Mitch Lynd--heavily budded, but blooms don't seem to crowd each other out. Mama Drama --subpar the past year; picture from 2022 Man of Sorrows --subpar. Needed to be divided too. Out of Joan Derifield Makayla Jenelle --don't know why it is not more widely grown. Boatwright Mai Tai --nice the past year; not a fast multiplier here Morning Mood --subpar year. A favorite here, but not widely grown. Pic from earlier year. Mahogany Magic from 2022. Bad year the past summer. Mary's Gold --a beacon in the later garden, rivaling Bill Norris in this color. Magic Lace. I still have this one, though David appears to have deleted it. Memphis this past summer --bud count can be modest, but flowers are consistent showstoppers. Mister Butters produced this picture past summer. Mary Lightfine, an evergreen, actually liked the past summer. Those that outperformed last year may not like more "typical" summers (if one dares to use "typical" anymore). This is the parent of Mary's Baby--hence, the name. And Mary's Baby this year, a subpar year. Minnesota Nice was subpar compared with this pic from 2022. It needs to be divided. Another one that seems not to be widely grown....See MoreO daylilies 2024
Comments (7)In my opinion, this is the most unusual daylily that i grow: OUR NEW KERMITMENT. I'm not sure I like it, but it is different. It was gifted to me by a friend in Maryland, because I would not buy it. I will be curious to what it looks like in clump strength. OFF BEAT: One of two Maryott's that I still grow. This one is vigorous in Zone 5. I divided the entire clump and left two fans for myself two years ago and I had 4 fans last year. ONCE OVER LIGHTLY: A Bennett introduction. OKLAHOMA SAND BURR: I wasn't quite sure if this one was going to survive the winters here. It continues to improve each year. I suspect that this is one that does not like being disturbed. Those are all the Os that I have. Have a great day! David...See MoreSn-Sz daylilies 2024
Comments (17)Sweeping Shadows the last couple of years has shown signs of tenderness. Short indeed. Earlier, it seemed to do okay. Next summer will be key. Perhaps Star Lord will take off this year; it's an evergreen. Brad's Stealth Bomber appears to have good branching; too slow to show its stuff here, so deleted. Stargate Portal--always low budcount and nothing last year. Sweet Isabela--always nice. Scapes could be more upright. Always glad to hear about Evick cultivars. He introduces a lot, but I don't hear much feedback. Same experience as Debra's with Strawberry Alarm. Sun Panda --Culver. Very saturated eye. Good growth Still the One --excellent in bud count, growth, color. Earlier blooming and tall. Sultry Girls --reliable and rich color. More susceptible to spotting than other Davissons I have. Good height. Stop the Car --well budded Gossard Star of India --excellent performance last summer. An early bloomer that must have liked something that other cultivars didn't. Nights were not as cool as usual in early June, so that may have been a factor. Sweetest Name I Know --newer plant Stone Palace Ecstasy. --It's growing here, but too early to evaluate. Color is rich. Substantial Treasure --performed better than most last summer. Stolen Treasure --subpar last year, with far fewer scapes and buds. Stone Palace Swagger --I very much like the rich color and size. Other factors still a question. Spacecoast Hot Lips --sent by mistake by Northern Lights. Very tall. Spacecoast Red Dazzler --nice color, but plant habit and performance a ?. Spunky Girls --excellent scape, bud placement, color. Looks great against the estate wall. Earlier. Soft Summer Night --poor performance last summer. From 2022. Spinal Tap --short last summer (pic from last summer). Sweet isabela --subpar Soft Play --a newer Hanson Sword of Justice --I like it, but performance so-so last summer. Storm Surge --newer Hanson Spirit of Hope --a Korth. Second year, but difficult to evaluate in a bad year. Sputnik --a favorite early Davisson. Good height. Snowflake Empress --off year for this Dougherty. Pic from previous year....See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
