Help needed on antique dining room set
Comments (12)I love 30s Jacobean. My parents had a dining set done of it. The old styles............if you hang on long enough, they come back in vogue. I thought that hutch didn't look right. What a shame they butchered the legs off the china cabinet, and I suspect they sawed off part or all of the legs on the sideboard, too to make it low enough to accommodate settign the china cabinet on top of it. So they took a traditional three piece set and turned it into two. The thing is those sorts of things often happen to 'old furniture' before it's hit the point of vintage and when it's gone, it's gone forever. It's still a nice set however. Actually the fancy work over the glass in the china cupboard isn't that hard to redo. It's held into place by what amounts to fancy quarter round. I've popped the quarter round off my china cupboard door and removed mine to clean it up and get at the glass....See MoreNeed help rethinking Great Room / Dining Room / Family Room / Kitchen
Comments (3)The plan separates each living space with access from a central hall. It would work well for an office building but not so much for a house especially f you plan to entertain. I find that trying to make a good plan out of a bad one is usually a waste of time and effort. Its like renovating a house that hasn't been built yet. Decide what you think an entertainment space should look like and develop the house around it. But I would not design a house around an occasional use. The interrelationships of family members should be the dominant theme of a house. And I would never put a level change in a living space unless there was an alternate wheelchair route. If you plan to entertain, the front door should have wheelchair access too. An accessible half bath would be good too....See MoreHelp! Need to pull dining room together

Comments (1)Place three chairs on each long side of the table, leaving the ends bare, and remove the bench. Maybe you can use the bench in a bedroom or hallway. Then put a large plant/tree in the corner nearest the window so you can use a real plant. You may have room for a very narrow (12") glass/metal console table along the back wall....See MoreTara
