Seeking advice on travel in Lima and Santiago?
Comments (14)KSWL, Oh my, that sounds extraordinarily trying. Thank goodness he (along with his family's support, I am sure) was able to defy the odds. Languages do seem to be a "knack"; hopefully he can find something that clicks for him! They say girlfriends/boyfriends who speak the target language are the best solution, LOL! Neighborgirl, What takes you to Santiago, I am curious? Here is what I got from a work colleague my real life "neighbor" : Places to Go: 1. Downtown including Casa de la Moneda(our White House)/Plaza de Armas/Mueso de Bellas Artes/ Cathedral, etc. 2. Plaza Mulato Hill, which has an excellent food alternatives and it is close to downtown. Recommended by night 3. Cerro San Cristobal Hill to get to the Virgin. You can get a very nice view of all of Santiago. 4. Bellavista neighborhood. This is one of the bohemian places in Santiago with a lot of nice restaurants and nightlife. Recommended by night. 5. Isidora Goyenechea street. This is a very fancy street with also good restaurants and bars. 6. Paseo el MañÃÂo Vitacura. With excellent gastronomic offers as well. Restaurants: 1. Nollita (Plaza Mulato Hill) 2. Liguria Luis Thayer Ojeda (www.liguria.cl). If you want to understand Chile, you need to go there. By far, the best option. 3. Mestizo restaurant (www.mestizorestaurant.cl). Nice option over Parque Bicentenario in Vitacura neighborhood. Especially for the evenings in summer time (Dec/March) 4. Coquinaria (www.coquinaria.cl). Located in the same building that the W Hotel, it is also a very good option. 5. Tierra Noble. Excellent Chilean food in an elegant way. 6. La Mar (www.lamarcebicheria.cl). Amazing Peruvian food. PS I have heard great things about the colorful seaside town of Valparaiso. Some source say it is an hour from SLC, some say 2?...See MoreAdvice for traveling with a dog
Comments (89)It used to be that there were many states that would only allow prescriptions from prescribers who were licensed within the state in which the prescription was to be filled. Most of these states have removed this restriction, but possibly not all. But, prescriptions from an out of state prescriber for controlled substances are likely to be viewed with suspicion and so perhaps refused (whether written or called in). The solution, as stated by seagrass, is to take the original prescription to a pharmacy that has branches across the US. When you need a refill, it can be transferred from the original pharmacy to a different branch of that pharmacy, in the other state. It's never a bad idea to talk to the pharmacist at your local pharmacy about your travel plans before you go, just to make sure there won't be any problems....See MoreTravel/Flying Stress: Advice Needed!
Comments (42)I read this thread a few days ago and didn't have time to respond... I am about as far opposite you (and many of the others) as could be. I worked for an airline for 10 yr early in my working life and I was ready to travel at a moment's notice. I kept a bag in the trunk of my car! Still, I sympathize and can relate somewhat as my ex had terrible anxiety with flying-- to the point that he NEVER slept before a flight. It caused many arguments until I realized he just wasn't going to change. I think the thing that strikes me most about your worries is that they are all things that are out of your control. For many of us, me included, having no control is a recipe for anxiety (and sometimes for me-- bad behavior). I think the key is to recognize what you can control and what you can't. I liked the idea of planning an extra day for your trip-- a "throw away day". If everything goes smoothly, you have a bonus day.. if not, then nothing is lost. It doesn't sound like your uber planning is causing you stress-- in fact, it is part of the control you DO have over your trip. I would never go to such lengths but that's just my personality. I am the person running to the store on day 1 because I have forgotten a hairbrush or my new shoes I HAD to have gave me blisters. I say stick with your routine-- but be sure to plan a relaxing first day of vac. It will balance out. Mostly, I just wish you a wonderful trip!...See MoreMore travel -- more general question/ideas (for my bucket list!)
Comments (34)We’ve just returned from a trip to Nashville. We were there two years ago for a medical seminar, but spent the majority of time inside the incredible, gorgeous Gaylord Opryland Resort. This time, we rented a house through AirBnB in the Edgehill neighborhood of Nashville. Although we love Country music and very much enjoyed our tour of the Grand Ole Opry, had great meals out, and saw the beautiful surrounding towns of Franklin, etc., overall it was just so congested everywhere! The roads, the entire downtown area, seemed so crowded, just as it was when we were there last. The majority of the homes in the. Nashville area seem to be without garages, which may be fine for the area but as a result, every street ( in both business and residential areas) was lined on both sides with bumper to bumper parked cars. Thank goodness DH can parallel park or we would have been in serious trouble (LOL)! We did end up driving 3 hours to Knoxville one day, which is a lovely city. If we’d had more time we would have loved to have spent some time in Asheville. In retrospect, I’m glad we went, but any future trips to Nashville will be to the Gaylord, with hired drivers dropping us off to see anything....See Morelegomom23
