Congrats on your move! Decorating 'from scratch' is lots of fun but can easily get overwhelming :). We moved from a small apartment to a 3 story home few months ago and it's still work in progress.. My big and long living room is slowly being taken over by toys as well.. They seem to multiply faster than rabbits :O. I utilized the bottom 2 shelves of a plain white bookcase (Billy from Ikea), I put two of Target brown fabric bins at the bottom (filled with stuffed animals and lighter plastic 'junk') and a few books and 2 smaller rattan baskets filled with blocks and small dollhouse accessories on the next shelf. The rest of bookcase is my books and picture frames (it's great to hide eg markers and playdough and paint behind the books too ;)). I'm also planning to get a cube storage unit (Expedit from Ikea too), it's deeper than the bookcase and doesn't scream 'kids', I'll put her toys into bins or baskets so they're not out in the open... When she grows, I can always fill it with books, games, knicknacks like frames and vases as well...

If you can resist the urge to buy toys, especially hokey plastic ones, and can convince others to donate the cost of a toy to the kid's college fund, you'll be a happy family all the way to the bank. Your baby will be just as happy playing with everyday household things and handmade toys. AKA, the rocking horse from grandpa, or the rag doll from grandma. Hopefully, there are still elders in your family who know how to make such loving keepsake toys. When they grow old enough to pick out toys or throw a fit in the store for one, you'll have to contend with that, but for now you still have all the control. Its the same with baby clothes. How many "outfits" get passed on to others with the tags still on them because there just wasn't enough time in the day for a baby to wear all the clothes in their closet. Diapers, tee shirts, sleeper gowns and body suits are really all you need for 6-12 months, unless you feel pressured to dress them up for outings or company. And don't let anyone make you feel guilty for keeping your life and your baby's life simple and clear. If you're able to stay home with baby, your time will be the most meaningful start to their little life you can give. Toys never make up for touch.

While I think the revisions addressed some issues, I would 1. make the vanity longer and use up all the space possible. Remember, 2 sink vanities lose a lot of drawer/storage space. Also, is there any other storage in the bathroom? Where will a towel-rack go or even a bar to hang a towel? 2. A desk inside the closet? Not what I would do, but maybe you have a good reason. You're going to need some serious lighting conditions in there to address the needs of someone working at the desk. 3. You must have a great relationship with a plumber, because none of the water-needing devices are back-to-back which means a whole lot of plumbing. 4. I'd probably close up that door from the bathroom to the closet. 1st, you get more hanging space in the closet. 2nd, you get room to add a tall bank of cabinets in the bathroom for storage. 5. Is that the shower in the upper left corner? 6' by 5'? That's an awfully big shower (bigger showers not always better, since it might not be as warm in there), and then a little dinky toilet area which is going to feel cramped. 6. The master bedroom is still so big you can fit a sofa in there. This is my personal preference, but here you are adding all this "utility" to a big space...2 bathrooms, a desk to work at, a new laundry room... and yet you still want all that roomy space around the bed. I just wouldn't want that, if I were you. To me, I consider having separate vanities a far bigger luxury than space around a bed, or having a sofa in my bedroom. I do think it's a great idea to have the laundry close to the kitchen like that. But a powder room that is going to flush while people are dining at the table? And they'll be able to smell from there? All in all, I don't really know why you are opposed to getting an architect. I'd want it done right for the amount of money you'll end up paying for construction.
