Furniture Design Dilemma dining room

Kitchen table chairs

I need dining chais. We have a small (5ft x 3ft) walnut table in our kitchen/great room. I can get chairs to match the counter stools, but was thinking I'd get something else to break up all the wood? Obviously need to be small scale, but husband sits there a lot and wants something comfy. I have attached pictures of two I have considered

, but open to other avenues.

I think your kitchen needs some color and honestly the table really is too big for the space . Is this the only eating space you have ? If not then I would push the table to the window and get 2 colorful chairs or even better a nice little bistro table and chairs in a color

They look nice, but rather than buying those two chairs, I think I'd go with 4 wood chairs that aren't upholstered and consider painting them a cool color that you like. I did this with my dining room table chairs, painting them a nice blue shade and they look ever so much nicer. I kept the wooden table as is and didn't paint it. The table is too small for the size of the two chairs you chose imo.

I did. My husband built the kitchen table about 45 years ago. Table is pine and had held up well. The chairs however were beyond staining. I picked up 4 quarts of latex paint in colors that I liked. Painted them then put transfers on the seats. Guess I’m a little quirky it’s the kitchen and I don’t like matchy matchy. Also my kitchen design falls somewhere between country and crab shack. Go for it, it’s only paint and if you don’t like it just paint them again. Please excuse my pics, some were at night others during the day.

I love colorful chairs in a kitchen. My old chairs looked terrible but still strong and sturdy. Bought 4 quarts of paint in colors I liked and painted them. Decide what your accent colors would be and paint the chairs to go with a white table. Have fun.

What colour would you suggest painting our kitchen table/chairs? Eventually we would like to paint the cupboards off-white and replace the tiles with hardwood but have to start with small steps (but open to advice)! Looks like a conference room at a bank in NYC. Definitely needs to be lightened up. I love the table; can it be refinished in a lighter color? I would get chairs that are less bulky. I would look for chairs that are open on the sides and back. Being able to see through the chairs lessens the heaviness of wood. Where did you get the bar chairs?
