Well, Had our first meeting with design/builder with plans today. He had actually put the toilet in the 'old bathroom' and just made a closet rather than a walk-in closet. I was aghast at the idea of losing my walk-in, so we contemplated adding a couple more feet of length- he put the toilet facing the vanity, and had the short wall enclosing one end of the shower which would run lengthwise 6' X 3', and tub placed centred on end wall- so basically turning everything I had drawn above 90 degrees. Have to admit, much better plan than I had had. Visually so much more appealing, and gave more room for everything including a 6 foot long vanity with two sinks. Adding two feet would actually give us a 6' vanity plus a 2 foot wide linen tower across from the toilet. However, while in present bathroom tonight, got to thinking... perhaps having toilet in a separate room is not a bad idea- and I really would only be losing a few feet of closet space and gaining a much more elegant and spacious looking bathroom. AND we could probably forego having to add another 2 feet to bathroom. So, here is an updated plan, now I have SO much space for bath tub, I need ideas!!! Note- there is no door into bathroom from closet.

Thank you all for the replies. The floor plan sketch is real rough, just trying to get an idea of how much space we might have. This is an older (1935) home, so the current second floor bathroom situation is real limited. HavenâÂÂt thought about doors to the closet, good point. The reason the closet is past the bathroom is for plumbing reasons. This addition would be above the original garage, where there is limited plumbing access. All access would be closer to the bedroom. Currently what is drawn in the dormer is a make-up desk and window seat. Just quick thoughts by the architect. We would prefer something more useful there, as space is limited. Just not sure what we could put in the dormer that would work. I had thought about a W/D under the window area and then a countertop. I will think about using it as closet, thanks! I think it will be 7âÂÂ9â mostly. Except for on the ends where it follows the normal pitch,, and parts of the dormer will be slanted. The vanity will be up against a wall that will be slanted down as well, canâÂÂt be too low with mirrors etc. Thank you for the additional sketches, gives me more to think about. I really like option 2 revised...it's so much better than the option 3, I saw on another forum :) Have you thought about making the "hall closets" into linen closets? I would move the door into the master bedroom back, so it's even with the walk-in closet door. This would give you one "hall closet" for linen/storage for the other bedrooms. Your existing linen closet is not very big, so the extra storage might come in handy. The second closet (now behind the door, when you open it) could be another linen closet, bookcases, or just a second closet. In the master bath area, it looks a little tight between the second sink and the toilet. Have you thought about moving the shower door down a little closer to the bathroom door (it looks like a sliding door) and bring the sinks down even with the shower. This would allow you to place the toilet between the sinks and the tub...giving you a lot more room to move around in the bathroom. The little windows, on each side of the sink, are neat...but you could keep one over the toilet (maybe frosted) but it would still let in more light. Hope this helps :)

Hi I frequent the decorating forum but have yet to join in baths. We are adding a master bath to our 1920s home. We have a space of roughly 13by8 and are omitting a tub but would like a large shower and we need storage space as well in this small space . We have a few plans that we are tossing around but need some opinions on if any are feasible, space wise. The first plan is from our GC. He added double sinks but I do not like to share the bath when I am in it so we do not need the double sinks. The room has a cathedral ceiling with a 36 diameter window on the long wall a 48x24 awning window placed five ft above the floor and a regular double hung on left wall. Here is the orginal plan, there are 7ft builtin cabinets flanking the sinks. Here is my DH's favoriteidea. He has taken about 4x13 off the side to put in a very small WIC and leaving 8x8 for the bath.And this is similar to the first plan but with a 3by5 shower and a single sink flanked by wardobe armoires. Do any of these plans stand out as a better option than the other? Or should I be starting from scratch? Thanks.
