Help with dining room

We just moved into this house 1.5 years ago. I need help. I cannot get it together. This is my dining room, I’m in the process of changing out the baseboards from small honey oak to white. I’m struggling to decorate or even what to do in here! I’m open to paint, new light, design etc!!! I was considering adding picture frame moulding. thoughts on that?? please help!!

You have a grey/white/black area rug so I would coordinate art colour scheme with it and update the chandelier, yours seems to cast a very yellowish light. I would also reupholster the chairs seat which seem to be black now to a light colour that coordinates with your area rug. Instead of a clear vase, yours looks very nice, try a light colour vase to see if you like that for more contrast on the table.

Oh great idea! i love the feedback. the rug is blue grey tan cream. i really love the chandelier too you recommend! Thank you. do you recommend I change the wall color or add picture frame moulding?

Don't write off fabric just yet. You could use microsuede, Crypton, or any of the newer indoor/outdoor fabrics available now. My DD chucked a whole bowl of tomato soup on one of my pale blue microsuede chairs and I swear it cleaned up perfectly. I think softer lines, and fabric, would bring some balance to the angularity of your room. I love the artwork and might think about pulling some color from the painting next to the stairs into said fabric. I know and love your kitchen from the KB. Nice to see you over here. looking forward to seeing more! :-)

Help with dining room furniture, room for table AND buffet/sideboard?

Here is the space between my chairs and console table. Between tables, it is 37 inches. You can see that my chairs are rather bulky. Honestly, they were a custom order and a mistake! I should have had chairs with a smaller back. I do use the buffet. It is where the desserts and beverages go during big holiday meals. I would hate not having it. But in your space, if you don’t need the serving space, I would forego the buffet. As someone mentioned, a floating shelf might be a good option. It could be used for decor, and if needed, could certainly hold a wine bottle or water pitcher.

hanging a light from the 16ft is an option its just how much do you want to sink into it. otherwise you could go back with track and run it width wise and just add track heads. you could also go back and add wafer style LED "recessed" lights. you could also hang the track on the green wall above the table and face the lights down.

You don't say how many people normally sit at the dining table, but frankly I like grandma's cabinet more than the dining set. People mix woods all the time and it's not easy to strike a balance. Maybe there's just too much wood going on with floor, door, and furniture..... What should be the star of the dining space? Grandma's cabinet and the pretty light fixture! But neither seems to stand out with all the other stuff going on. Consider removing the stuff on top of grandma's cabinet, remove the console and lower the items on the wall there to eye level. The space will breathe better and not be so busy, but see if you like the difference. Another possible thought would be to paint the door same color as the trim so it's not so prominent next to grandma's cabinet.

Do you have picture mouldings in other rooms in your house, for example in the living room? and what is the general style of your house, the dining room seems to be open onto other areas... As for the paint colour, it's difficult to see exactly what colour is on your wall on my laptop or any other device just as you can't go by the colours you see in magazines. In my sketch above everything looks coordinated but I went by what I saw and obviously didn't see the exact colours if I go by your comment on the colour of your area rug.

The color on the walls is Loggia by SW. it opens up to the entryway and front sitting room.

we dont have other mouldings. We did however put in a batten wall in our laundry room that we just remodeled last Feb.

Our home is probably more traditional but we are trying to get away from that. I will post a picture of the laundry room etc to show what we have changed to style wise.
