Entryway help, can't seem to pull this together
Good Morning, Snowed in from Michigan here this morning. So I am changing things around and looking for advice for this space. Console table or HUGE Mirror and sitting chair?
do I put it on the wall facing the door? Seems tight when I walk in. I need help pulling this together.
The light fixture can go also.
This is not our main use of the door, the occasional company does come thru this door, but a majority of the time we use the back entrance where there is a full mudroom, etc.
The space measures 55in wide x 92in long. I have about 20 inches of clearance to open the door and not hit what is behind it.
I tend to like more modern pieces. I would like to give this a little more wow factor when you walk in. Thank you in advance.

Love all the suggestions and yes I need to charge up my digital camera and get some snaps, but you know how small and puny annual beds tend to look when they're first planted (and I have this terrible habit of removing the almost-spent flowers as soon as I've planted. I picked it up from my father - don't know if as superstitious or healthy so everythings quite green right now)! I think Linda, you're right about the purples, and lavender. The white, I'll test it, I think it might work if its sparse. I thought grey/green foliage would work but I sat a licorice plant in there for 30 mins and studied it from all angles and it didn't (this is when I worry about what the neighbours think, LOL) it didn't strike the right chord somehow. Rhizo, YES! I was wondering about something with shiny dark green foliage but the bed is a full sun as you can get. Is there anything that would work, that you can think of? I've never planted heliotrope before. Just checked some images and its beautiful! Definitely a possibility. Lexi, great suggestions -- thanks! You know, there just are NOT enough hours in a day. And now my days are being cut short by mosquitos and June bugs (nature's finest. Does any insect have a lower IQ than a june bug?) Comments (65)I realize it's 5 years later, but I am posting my experiences for anyone else who may be reading this thread. I am a parent of a middle-school boy with attention-type ADHD. He was diagnosed in 4th grade and has been on medication since the last marking period of 4th grade. Yes, middle school teachers in general expect a student to turn in homework without being reminded. The students also have to take initiative to discover what work was missed during an absence (classwork and homework) and make up that work as well. All without teacher reminders. For my son, with ADHD and braces, who missed a lot of classes for dental appointments, this could have been a *disaster*. Medications can help. They can help enormously. And there are a whole class of stimulant medications that wear off by the end of the day, thus appetite returns and growth is not inhibited. Metadate is one; my son takes this with very positive results. Another thing that helps is ORGANIZATION. I have really got to hand it to our school system here in Maryland. Our 6th graders are assigned a binder system. The school has created a layout for how the 6th grade binder should look - where the notebook paper goes, how many tabbed dividers there should be and how they are labelled, where the pencil pouch should be and what is in it, sections for each school subject. Fantastic. They also are given an agenda book that they are required to fill in every day. It covers homework for each class and a section for brief notes or reminders. Our schools also have a program called AVID that begins in middle school. During AVID class, the binders are checked for neatness and adherence to the organizational system. Students are graded on their organization! The agendas are also checked to make sure they are being filled out properly and consistently. The kids are also taught how to take notes, how to study, and how to work through a problem that you don't understand, be it math or ancient Egypt. Comments (5)I think you need more color. Go on Pinterest and search Bohemian style so that you have a feel for what that looks like and then copy it. Keeping the sofa covered isn’t helping. Add blue to the wall behind the sofa. Consider framing you maps. Add more plants even if they are faux. Get Bohemian style pillows. They tend to be highly textured with tassels or embellishments. 3 months agoWell after adult kids were here and adjusting to the layouts, this one works the best. I really liked the table in the other wall however when using the door it felt to cramped. Also everyone liked the mirror on this wall to check themselves on the way out. Bundling up to head out in Michigan to look for some decor and light! Thank you again for all the input! Love this site and all of you.

3 months agoI’m so glad you have such a great spot for the watercolor. The size of art for the entryway depends on your frames and matting. This screenshot of a 12 x 18 print in their Chelsea frame and a 1.5” mat, comes to a finished size of 16.5” wide by 22.5” high. I’d try taping it out on your wall to see if you want to go with three and if the size feels right.
