Design Dilemma Polls Bathrooms

Black or white sink?

We are redoing the bathroom. Vanity will have dark black/gray walls, s moked gray cabinets, butcher block countertop and matte black faucets. i know it is A LOT of dark but that’s what we’re going for! White vessel sinks or black vessel sinks? Pictures of the cabinets and the color inI’m thinking of staining the countertops.

It takes a caulk artist on these sinks. You almost always want to bring the top to the sink and not the sink to the top with caulk color choice; this may be an exception. With a butcher block top, I'd run a short bead of translucent Beige adjacent a white and see which looks best before committing.

I have had vessel sinks and would never live with another one that had tall sides. Too confining and just ends up taking too much space on the counter.

If you select a vessel sink, please don't mount it on a 35" high countertop.

If I was to try another one I might consider one of these.

Well, I don't know much, but here's my two cents. I'd say it depends on if you want to draw attention to the shower. The oil rubbed bronze would draw attention, and would maybe continue the look of your black bean mirrors, if they are rectangular that is. Satin nickel would cause the frame to blend in more, almost disappear, I think. Either would look nice, question is, do you want the shower to pop?

Thank you all for your comments so far. I have a white sink now and would never get another. I thought the black sink was something a little different and would look sharp with the white counter and dark cabinets and tie in the other black accents (tinted glass on the hood (Elica Como... on the same wall as the sink) and the pendant lights (Quoizel Spiral Mini) over the island behind the sink. I just saw a graystone sink, which might not be as sharp/harsh as the black that you are all agreeing on. Ohhh the dilemma!

Something close to the cabinet hardware. Maybe Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Nickel, or Matte Black. I would replace the chandelier light bulbs with frosted ones so there are no shadows. Look for LED, especially if you have that light on for extended periods.

"And if I go quartz-does that change your sink recommendation?" The Karran sinks can be seam undermounted in engineered stone, depsite what Karran recommends, however, I doubt your fabricator will be enthused. Acrylic sinks can be seam undermounted mounted in estone and look great. Get a nice undermount with a slight positive reveal and strap it in place please. "Turns out a local fabricator has quartz options equal to the cost of corian." You say that as if somehow solid surface tops are inferior to estone and therefore should be less expensive. They are not. "Do you have a preference for material countertop?" I advocate for solid surfaces, but I acknowledge trade offs too. If you're into hard and shiny, granite is tough to beat. Estone is stronger than natural stone, after all it's 33% plastic, so it can be cantilevered further than natural stone without supports. Estone is difficult to repair inconspicuously; sintered nearly impossible. Granite can be repaired somewhat inconspicuously depending upon color, particulate, and movement; Corian repairs can be highly inconspicuous.

I love vessel sinks but they are messy and with a wood counter not ideal I would do white for sure and you will need mega led lighting 4000K bulbs for sure. I did an all black bathroom for a client once I mean all black I used a ton of halogen lighting that was in the days before LEDs that were really available the room was fabulous I had a vase on the back of the toilet that was clear and help one red rose he replaced every week His cleaning lady hated me but he loved it . I think the white is nice spark in that space you have just make sure every user understands wiping up after themselves .As for caulking I would do clear and not heavy handed either
