Old thread, just wanted to add: There were radios built into tables, in particular the Atwater Kent 55 or 60 model built into a 6-sided table in about 1929 by Kiel furniture co. However the table had to have quite a bit of space (6") vertically inside to hold all the bulky electronics. I'm not sure how this one is put together but I doubt a radio of that era would fit under the average dining room table. If they did, the controls would have been on the side or top, not underneath. The Atwater Kent had a small hinged door on one side that flipped down to reveal the tuning dial and knobs. What you have there is called an escutcheon or dial plate, btw. I'm thinking they used it to repair or shim something. However if you find odd bolt holes that no longer hold anything, it's possible...

I just love William Morris' work! Lovely! I do, however, think the frame doesn't fit with the scheme of the room. It's too blocky and modern, and doesn't flow with the mood of the space (which is fab, BTW). I'd go with something with more curves and a softer color. Perhaps you could find a frame that picks up a gold or brown tone from the mirror opposite. I'd love to see a darker gold gilt vintage frame with that beautiful artwork in it! I think you can make the plates work if you add several more around the print, or if you put two on each side of the print (placed vertically, and set so that they're not as tall as the print -- think roughly a diamond shape with the print being the taller "points" in the middle). Overall, I just love your room and already had it saved to my decorating inspiration folder! Wonderful job. :)

Not that I'm an expert, but I really like that rug in your living room. All of the colors in the rug really accentuate the "calm" of your furniture. I don't know if I'm saying that right...but the rug is a stand out and it reminds me of a room that a designer would put together. Keeping the furniture monochromatic and then putting the one piece in that makes you say "aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh, so that's how you do it." I could sit, chat, and drink wine all night in there! I also noticed that your new little one is attached to your Bichon. So sweet. We adopted a 3 yr old German Shepherd from the pound a few years ago and she is best friends with our shep/retriever mix. Well, after an awkward alpha issue about six months in to it. That resolved fairly quickly, thank goodness. I know that he helped her assimilate into our family...after a year she finally stopped trying to jump into the back of every truck we passed!

Not crazy about any of them, for the reasons already given. Why not get the buffet that matches, and then bring in a separate curio-type cabinet to display things? Or, instead of going black, look for a buffet and hutch in the cherry finish, perhaps with black iron hardware. It is very possible that the black finishes won't match when combining two mfg. The cherry piece would really compliment the cherry on the set, and not create the matching issue in the same way the black would. The other issue that concerns me is judging by your picture, you didn't buy a table and chairs, but rather a counter-height table and stools - is that correct? If so, the proportion and height of the buffet and hutch may be an issue - you want them to work together, so that the height of the buffet isn't way lower than the table height.
