Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/17/2023
Comments (13)Yesterday was my first day out of the house and I made a beeline for our community farmers’ market. Delicious veggies and fresh eggs were in abundance, and I bought a lot from my favorite vendor. In the bag: red new potatoes and the most delicious green and purple okra! Also some very small cute red and yellow biquinho sweet peppers (not visible) that I am planning to use in salads. A beautiful eggplant, freshly hulled limas and black eyed peas, garlic garlic, and two varieties of tomato. I harvested my back porch basil and made this for yesterday’s lunch homemade basil walnut pesto on toast, topped with slices of heirloom tomato, heavenly! I’ve already cooked the peas in chicken broth and have made a beans and rice dish to be eaten throughout the week, and have roasted eggplant slices, the potatoes, and four older tomatoes we already had (with olive oil and balsamic vinegar). The latter I scraped off the pan, mashed thoroughly and now have a delicious savory tomato jam I used on my and DH’s morning eggs today. I am going to make dilled potato salad with the roasted potatoes as I find using them gives the dish so much more flavor than using boiled ones. Between our vacation (DH and I both lost weight) and recent illness I am now at the same weight I was at age 35. Interestingly, I don’t look different but my weight seems to have been completely rearranged or redistributed, if that makes any sense, and my clothes are fitting differently. I bought a belt a few weeks ago in my regular size and I’m buckling it in the smallest hole. 😳 No idea if my body will “settle” at this weight (and no panic if it doesn’t) but I am enjoying having a real waistline again. (Still no hips, but the illusion of them now with a waist!)...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/24/2023
Comments (23)Congratulations everyone on keeping with this! SpringRoz wonderful news! I love the fact that something that you can wholeheartedly do works to your advantage. So glad the doctor is seeing that. That'll show them. ;-) Sue have a wonderful time in Denmark. It has been simply years since I have been back and it is a beautiful place to visit with very interesting people. LegoMom I'll be very interested to hear about your journey with the metabolism makeover. Wouldn't that be great if that works. I am very good at being consistent at my three days of exercise funky. I am not very good at adding weights to it. I hope that if I keep trying weightlifting will become as normal as my other exercises Things have been going well enough I am doing my exercises no matter what but I'm feeling a bit stressed since we accidentally got scammed for a few dollars from a website that we put information in and realize afterwards that it wasn't for the tickets for the wine tasting festival. Yes we are kicking ourselves. Can we say locked card and new card.. :-( So stress level high 20 out of 10. Exercise continuing as regularly scheduled. Probably 8.5 out of 10. Eating probably a 4 out of 10. What did the eating in is those albeit healthier chips and cheesies that I ate over that weekend. I haven't weighed myself and I know that eating those is not so good. Anyway feeling healthy enough at least even with the blip in what I ate. Only one migraine over the weekend so that's a really telling sign that I didn't kill myself too much and the stress/weather isn't killing me right now :-)....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/5/2023
Comments (33)Sue, any time I get called back for an ultrasound following a mammogram it’s unnerving. I’m sure they told you it’s pretty common but also know that doesn’t help your state of mind. I’ll be thinking about you this week. I’m trying to pick up the pace of my walks because a newer study says the cadence of one’s stride as well as the number of steps taken each day are positively correllated with better cardiovascular health and lower mortality. Continuing to eat healthfully and mindfully… my evening snack is now either a yoghurt or six almonds and six dried tart cherries. I went shopping with my mother yesterday and bought a sweater in a size small and was so pleased until I remembered I recently bought a down coat in size XL from Uniqlo to allow a heavy sweater underneath. Sizing really is ALL over the place! (Funky, i bought this coat because it’s more flat than puffy and one of the reviewers said it was the only coat she tried on that didn’t make her feel like she was wearing a duvet 😁 And I finally figured out why I don’t like down coats with the quilting baffles on the diagonal—- it looks like the underside of a turtle! ) Sorry for the aside!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/12/2023
Comments (5)Gscience - sorry you fell! Ugh, but it does sound like you are recuperating well! Hope it's a quick recovery from here on. Springroz - amazing Pilates consistency! That must feel fantastic! Funky- I hope you enjoyed your walk. We have been having lovely weather here as well, so I have been forcing myself to go along on the morning dog walks. Always glad I went, it's a good way to start the day. I had a good week mostly. Lots of walks, three good pickleball days, and three full body weight trainings. I have a great setup in my basement now that will allow me to progress through the winter and a goal to be strong to ski in February, so that should keep me motivated and moving forward. I'm still thinking about my bloodwork, nothing was alarming, but I was hopeful for some different numbers. But looking back honestly over the past few months I can see I wasn't really changing much up. So, I do have a couple tweaks I'm going to work on and see where I get. Mostly more fruits and vegetables, more water, more weight lifting, and some targeted supplements. I'm terrible at taking vitamins of any sort, but there is a theme in my bloodwork which might be helped with a couple additions. But, in the big picture, I am grateful for my good health so far in life, grateful for the mental health and mood boost eating well and exercising gives me, and grateful for my body which is getting stronger and allowing me to enjoy the activities I love. Can't let myself get down in the weeds too far :)...See MoreFunkyart
