Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/28/2023
Comments (25)As some may have seen on another thread, I traveled to Atlanta this last week so my exercise routine was pretty wrecked for half the week. Over last holiday weekend I spent so many hours doing yard work on top of my usual exercise, so hopefully that made up for it. And one of my days in Atlanta involved a ton of walking through a museum and the aquarium, so that was hopefully beneficial. I am also happy to report that I did not get any gluten sickness on my trip which felt like a big win. But most importantly, the summer only swimming pool is now open for 50m outdoor swimming in the mornings! I'm really hoping they haven't sold out most of the pool to a swim team again like last year. The 50m is more of a workout since you're pushing off from the wall less frequently and I can definitely feel it after each session. I need to get back into my summer routine of cardio in the morning and weights at lunch time since I've been slacking off a bit on the weight lifting. On the weight loss front I think I'm still hovering about where I was in the winter. Maybe down a pound. So maintaining, but I'd like to lose a few more again in the summer to be back where I was at the end of last summer. On a side note, I'm terribly photo phobic and hate having people take photographs of me without my control. Apparently our company photographer snapped a picture of me during our in person company event and the CEO decided that was the photo he would send out to our entire company in his weekly email. Ugh. I am grateful that my immediate reaction wasn't "Oh no, I look fat!" but I still wasn't very happy with how I looked. I wish I could get comfortable with how I look in pictures....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/16/2023
Comments (20)Here I am bringing up the rear - seems to be a pattern for me most weeks! I applaud all who have lost weight no matter the amount or the length of time it took. The older we get, the harder it is to take off those stubborn pounds and I really appreciate how hard everyone is working. It doesn't go along with the calorie/weight charts, but I find that if I consume more than 1200ish calories per day I gain. To lose, I have to drop my intake to about a 1000/day. Exercising helps a bit, but I think it keeps us healthy more than it helps us lose weight. At least for me that's the way it seems to work. Funky, I know it's a few weeks off, but enjoy your vacation and be proud of how much you have lost. That's a lot of hard work you've done and you should pat yourself on the back. Bunny, I did Invisalign a few years ago and it took a couple of months before I noticed any difference in how my teeth look. But, I knew it was working because my teeth were always sore for 2-3 days after getting new trays and I could feel the gentle pressure the trays were putting on my teeth. The original plan was for 18 months, but at the end of that time, my dentist decided to go an additional six months. It was all worth it as I now have beautiful straight teeth and I feel so much more confident when I smile. During the time I was wearing them only one person noticed and commented, but she was someone who was considering doing it herself so she was tuned in to them. As far as not leaving them in as much as recommended, I wasn't always diligent. I like to drink tea in the mornings, and because I'd been told that tea would stain the trays and my teeth, I'd leave them out in the mornings so I could enjoy tea time. In the end, I don't think it mattered; I got the end result I was after. We were out of town last week, and despite my best intentions, I did not get much movement in. We were in the car for several hours a day each day and when we did stop for the day, it was so hot (triple digits) I just could not bring myself to move around. I tried to be careful what I ate, but when out of town and eating out, there are so many temptations. I don't think I gained any weight, but I felt so bloated when we got home. After getting back on my regular routine, I'm feeling much more myself. I hope all of you have had a great week and that next week is even better! :)...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/20/2023
Comments (21)Things are going well here as far as the exercise goes. I of course can't really lose weight but I'm enjoying going dancing two or three times a week thrown in the mix right now. Going to free summer concerts helps with that. Also we go dancing once a week to alive music pub Friday nights or Saturday nights. The music is pretty good. DH is enjoying tries out different beers one beer each time. Are you ready for fall activities, clothes and food? I'm not ready for Fall. But I am more than ready for Fall. I don't want to stop wearing my summer clothes and going to all the summer dancing that we have been doing. I want the fires to be gone and people to not be too hot who are uncomfortable in the heat. It is weird to feel such Joy in being able to do these summertime activities and feel such sadness for people who are caught in fires and storms and etc. I guess both can exist at the same time but they are uncomfortable together. How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle goals? In as much as I can do my healthy lifestyle style goals are being met. As I said above I can't lose weight. But hopefully I can shift things enough through weight lifting etc to help with my problem areas. I'm looking at you muffin top.. What's going well As I've said before the shortened time span that I eat my meals with IF seems to work very well for me. My weight stays fairly consistent and has ever since I started this program. I don't look at it to help me lose weight as that seems to be a non-starter for me. It does definitely contribute to maintenance. I seem to need to cut out all extra evening snacks to maintain my weight no matter what level of activity I do. What needs more work and focus? I need to weight lift more even if it is body weight lifting and de-stress somehow so that I can lose the excess cortisol in my system and maybe not have a muffin top ;-). Wishing everybody else health and safety. I've been distracted by all these summer activities so haven't said much to individuals. But I think of you all almost every day....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/29/2023
Comments (12)I’ve been maintaining a good activity level and continuing with my eating plan. I eat little but have plenty of energy, and eat more if I see the need. At this point I am not trying to lose, just maintain and adjust as I add or subtract activities. Today I’m making a cider based pulled pork in the crockpot for sandwiches as SIL and the grands are coming for the weekend to give DD a few days to herself. I will probably take Andrew to see the Paw Patrol movie and I am looking forward to the kids’ pack of a small amt of popcorn, junior drink and fun size Welch’s fruit snacks! Having the kids here automatically means I am weight lifting (switching back and forth between 27 lbs to 18 lbs, lol) I’ll also make cole slaw and a shredded brussel sprouts salad, and give the DH and SIL tortilla chips and salsa as well. I also bought Bluebell peppermint bark ice cream for dessert and will whip up a chocolate ganache for that. Luckily ice cream is not my weakness. My meal plan for myself is for adequate protein, more complex carbs / veg/ fiber and minimal sugar / pasta/ potatoes etc. If I make all those it usually serves everyone well as they eat more of what they like and there’s something appealing for everyone. Autumn has put a new spring in my step and I am anxious to get out and dive into everything. Sunday I have a historical society meeting after church and a concert at 5 (attending, not singing), and next week a landscape painting class and a dinner meeting for the regional Democratic party along with rehearsals two nights for two different choirs. My primary goal is to be as healthy as possible to care for my mother and DH, help out with the grandchildren and stay involved in all the things that interest me. Lately it all seems to have become easier to manage, no idea why 🤔...See MoreFunkyart
