Fireplaces Living Room Home Decorating

I need help balancing my room.

As you can see the fireplace is not centered and I don’t know how to make the room balance. Should I paint the wall a different color? Change the curtains? A different cabinet (color)? Paint the fireplace or the mantle? I would appreciate if someone provides a mockup. Thank you very much.

Definitely paint or stain the mantle. Darker brown.
For me, it’s just a lot of white. I’d reface the fireplace. Or wipe off some of the white to show the brick through. Add some more character.
The curtains looks drop high.
Tbh it seems like a mishmash of a couple different styles together.

Do not add purple to that room. That would not make any sense. You already have your color palette established. Adding random colors should not be the goal. What you need to do is stick with the palette you already have. Color is not your problem. You need LAYERS. You need to build up that space so it's not so flat and one dimensional. You need an area rug. You need to upgrade the throw pillows. You're trying too hard to match the pillows to that piece of art work. Yes, keep the colors in the same family, but focus more on texture and then add pattern. All solid color pillows are too boring and flat. Then you need to pull that sectional away from the corner. Do not stick furniture in corners, that will never look good. Pull it into the center of the room and reconfigure it so that it is looking at whatever the focal wall is in the space. Without being able to see the entire space, maybe turn the couch so that it is looking at that blank wall that the long part of the couch is backed up onto now for example. in other words, get the couch into the center of the space on a large area rug however that fits best. Then get a console table to put behind the long part of the sectional with a large piece of modern sculpture art on it to go with your modern wall art.

Sounds like you and hubby aren’t on the same page. Buying a table, without ability to return is red flag to me. He bought that rug too without your involvement. The rug is wrong size and style. No photo of the table. But better sit down and talk about this and reach some compromises otherwise, these situations can fester and get ugly over time.

Try turning the rug and table perpendicular to the window. Lower the chandelier to 32" over table top. The window treatment with the dark bottom is what is making the room look unblanced. Too much dark at eye level. Then consider a tall rectangular piece of art for he bare wall. Try a triptych. These are from greatbicanvas. I am a little late to see this but have to answer the couch color question. A tan or saddle leather sofa would look amazing with the dark green velvet chair. It is a tried and true, winning combination in any style as these attached pictures show. The contrast between smooth, reflective leather, the nubby velvet and chunky ivory rug are a texture sweet spot. The curtains should be considered after the paint. If you are sticking with the bright white i would add some pattern or color to add visual interest at the window. Good Luck!

I love the color of your curtains (although I find the one-slided approach a bit off-putting). What about a throw pillow in that color on the couch to tie it all together a big more? Move the china cabinet over forward the fireplace more so that it is not crowding the curtain.

This family room is in work in progress. The coffee table, credenza on the right and glass side tables are going. The tall cabinet is staying and will probably refinish in a different color.

Here is the view from the kitchen. The kitchen cabinet is in dark chocolate brown and would probably incorporate that color in the family room. Thanks everyone!

I suggest you replace the tall cabinet with a low buffet with decor above and have drapery panels on each side of your patio doors. Those two small changes already make it look more balanced.

Shady, the jbl speakers are very important to my husband, so I can’t replace them. I will get a new tv stand (not sure with the color yet) and will probably paint the back wall back or something.
