Family room layout and sectional advice
Comments (2)In my opinion Lee is a good choice. They make a nice product. I think most of their pieces are 8 way tied with solid wood frames but you might want to check out how your sectional will be constructed and what type of cushions are used....See MoreAdvice On Family Room Recessed Lighting Layout
Comments (4)Thanks Davidtay! I definitely would prefer if the layout was symmetrical, but that's the concept I'm having trouble grasping with the diagonal wall (fireplace). I would also, if possible, like to incorporate a 4" gimbal spot over the fireplace to accentuate a framed picture. I have read through a majority of your LED recessed lighting discussion, and have found it quite helpful in determining my lighting requirements for our kitchen....See MoreAdvice needed and appreciated for Family Room layout and design
Comments (20)Morning! No, I wouldn't leave the yellow. You might want to post a pix looking into the kitchen since they share the same paint color. Go with a taupy tone... As for the drapes, I am ALWAYS pushing these but you cannot beat them for an expensive look (linen) lengths and price. I've used them for umpteen years in several homes and have the beige. The beige is a shade that also works with grayish beiges....I have that tone now. I never would use the tiebacks included....awful look. They also send iron on fusing so you can hem them to your length. They're probably the only drapes that come in extra long lengths (118") that won't break the bank or demand custom. Cut the tabs off, turn over the material, hem and use clip rings. Tabs are not a great look IMHO. I notice that online they don't have the beige ones at the 118" length but do the gray. I'm not sure why since I've bought them before. You might check into that. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20111974/ Witih the drapes right next to the stone pattern, I'd prob avoid any patterns....just too much going on. Save pattern for a rug and pillows....See MoreDesperately need advice for living/family room! (many pictures inside)
Comments (10)I wouldn't put TV on window wall either. Going with a traditional sofa I would face it towards the wall with bookcases, and place the TV and TV stand in between the bookcases. Center the sofa as best as you can and don't shove it up against the wall with the windows, leave room for a small side table only if you need it lighting, otherwise leave it as a way to move into the TV area. You would have access on both sides of the sofa. Set the Sofa where the back of it is just behind the 'eye line' of doorway to dining room, leaving ample room to walk by the sofa, and to have a nice coffee table in front of it. There should be room to the right of the sofa (near the window that's closest to bookcase) for a chair. Don't put it on the wall, or in the corner. You want to make it part of the seating area so place it accordingly. You could either put the computer desk behind the sofa and give it a dual purpose, and use the remaining space in the room as a conversation / reading area with a couple of chairs, with nice artwork. Or just hang artwork and have a hall type of table to set your keys on. You could set up the space for the kids to hang out, play games, read, or whatever. Get a cool kids Teepee (u can find them at Target) and set it in the corner. They would probably be in it all the time. Anyway that's what blew thru my mind. I often 'think outside the box' and I'm no genius, but I try to enjoy my surroundings and change things up when I can, using what I already have. Best of luck!...See Moremaram2
