Comments (3)If you use the Cree CR6, the max output per can is 575 lumens. The color temp is 2700k (soft white), so the light is definitely not cold white. If dimmers are used, shave 5% off the max output since modern dimmers only provide up to 95%. To provide myself with some buffer, I would discount the output per can to ~ 500 lumens. Assuming all lighting coming from the cans alone and ~ 35 lumens per sq ft, the number of cans required is 16 (Max output of 575) - 18. If you intend to layer your lighting / have multiple types of sources - pendants, ucl, cove, spotlights, track lighting, ... the total can be reduced, depending on the output of each source type and location. The final location of each recessed can depends heavily on obstructions in the space above the ceiling - water pipes, HVAC, vertical clearance, location of the joists, wiring, ... You may have to either change the pattern of cans, or reduce the number of cans and rely more on other types of light sources. If the ceiling is currently open, it would be relatively easy to figure out the location of each can. Cove lighting could be employed to augment the recessed cans and pendants. I would put a can over the center of the sink. I would place the pendants on the center of the island (if there is no cooktop). Where is the cooker hood? Or are you considering using a down draft vent system? If there will be a significant amount of cooking, you should plan on having a proper cooker hood installed....See MorePicking pendant lights
Comments (23)Thanks all. My husband hated the Kichler Quinn. He hates drum lights. He is difficult! He is set on a light that doesnt hang down over the kitchen table. I may be able to change that, but i'm not sure. He's very set in his ideas. So far I am thinking of either the Hudson Valley Darien in Antique Nickel with a white glass shade (8" size) Or the Boston pendant on Circa Lighting's page in Antique Nickel Or I could go back with the pendants I had in my last house, which were Hubbardton Forge. They dont have a nickel finish, but I could get Smoke, Black, Burnished Steel...In my last house I had black, but the part right above the glass globe was copper. It was very pretty And then I am sort of liking one of these lights for over the table (if I went with HF) or Still unsure on the Hubbardton Forge though. I like the lights when I see them in a room, but I'm not always sold just seeing a picture of the light by itself....See MoreL shaped island-please help!
Comments (7)I agree with Brickwood Builders, placing 3 small pendents over the 8.5' area. I think if you do 2 different types of hanging pendents over your island area, it might look confusing. What do you think of these fixtures as options: [Quoizel Trilogy 1 Light Mini Pendant in Old Bronze[(https://www.houzz.com/products/quoizel-trilogy-1-light-mini-pendant-in-old-bronze-prvw-vr~78661690) [Robert Abbey Albert Pendant, Patina Nickel[(https://www.houzz.com/products/robert-abbey-albert-pendant-patina-nickel-prvw-vr~5627530)...See MoreHelp for pendant lights on L shaped island
Comments (5)Curious what you decided. Having the same dilemma with our planned l-shaped island. 113” long on one side, 60” on the other side of the L- whole thing is 36” wide. Looking at 8” pendants _ do we need 4 or 5. The 60” side is essentially our dining spot with stools, the longer side has sink/trash/dishwasher. We will also have 4 recessed over walkways and under cabinets lighting along 2 walls....See More- 5 months agolast modified: 5 months ago
