^^ Sounds like a feast! Those empanadas sound really good. I made a pumpkin cheesecake but will make caramelized pears to put out for dessert too -- something light after the starch-fest.

We're doing ours Saturday. Having chicken and pork enchiladas, a taco bar and a big salad. Cherry pie for dessert. Cherries, tomatoes and tomatillas home grown!

I shared this on the kitchen table humor thread, but thought it was appropriate to repeat here.

It's just me and my BF, so I decided to try an herb & butter roasted turkey breast. It's in the oven now, along with some sweet potatoes, and it looks fantastic. Otherwise, it will be my classic T-day meal: I already made dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie, so all that's left to make is mashed potatoes, gravy, and some green beans. yum. :)

Today started with staying up too late into today because the farm delivery was tucked in neatly on the hinge side of the door where it couldn't be seen from inside the house, but it was all correct and contributed to the festivities, so good enough. A cousin who lives on the opposite coast called out of the blue while I was cooking the spiced carrot dip. We didn't have time for a proper sit down and gab, but it was a Thankful Day nice thing. I managed the carrot, guacamole, and vegetables (pie was last night) in time to have this half hour feet up before we have to pack it all up and drive over the river and through the woods, not to mention a few mountains, to the Thanksgiving cousin.

Here is my quite simple Thanksgiving dinner in all it’s messiness… it’s hard to get a photo before people start jumping in.

Turkey breast slices served on plates then serve yourself green beans, mushroom and cherry tomatoes…. my take on traditional. Also roast potatoes and roast sweet potatoes cooked in mild garlic butter. Gravy in the jug, cranberry sauce from a jar and a bought dinner roll.

We'll have our celebration next Saturday, when the Princess comes home with the Frat Boy and Ashley has her girls.

Elery and I had a lovely dinner with the neighbors at the B&B, their chef prepared everything and all I did was drink coffee, gossip and do some dishes. With Mother and my brother both gone this year it was a good thing to have something a bit different and it was a nice time talking and cheering on the Detroit Lions, although they stayed with their tradition and lost, LOL.

@plllog I am also thankful for the cooking forum. GW in general. I used to primarily use the plant/gardening forums way back in time. It is a now very wonky site now but I am so happy it still exists.

My family gathering was larger than I expected but very enjoyable. Both in people and food. My meat loving nephew made venison chili, pulled pork, smoked salmon, scallops and the required turkey. There were an equal number of sides and a huge array of desserts.

The empanadas were really good. Crisp buttery shell and fruity middle. My only issue was that I made the fillings the night before. I used frozen blueberries - so by morning the filling was soup. The apple filling was fine made in advance. I tried making blueberry muffin tin tarts - the bottom crust was soggy. At some point I just mixed up my melted filling with a new batch with frozen berries. That worked to make the empanada shape. Much better.

I love you guys too. :)

plllog, about the stupid places that boxes are left after delivery: I just got a large heavy box delivered directly in front of my storm door. Do you know how hard it is to open a storm door that's being blocked by a huge heavy box? Thankfully that's only the third time it's been done to me. lol!

neely, your plated meal is gorgeous! I only thought to take one photo of any of the food I made. The obligatory dinner rolls that are actually destined as leftover turkey sandwiches. :)

Annie, I'm glad to hear that all is well there and your dinner with Elery sounds lovely. I can't even remember the last time I enjoyed a meal with an atmosphere like that...............

agmss, it sounds like your nephew is a cooking phenom! That's a shame about the make-ahead blueberries. I had a similar disaster once when I attempted a make-ahead cheesey-creamy topping for an onion flambe. :p

My butter/herb turkey breast was wonderful!!! The only drawback was a lack of drippings to make good gravy for my BF.... had to use the stuff that came in a package with the turkey.
