can someone create a visual for my living room? help

Looking to change up my color scheme a little. Any suggestions? Maybe a different color curtains and different pillows…?

I would get a rug. To me it creates warmth and finish the look of a room. Once you get a rug pull some colors from it for your accents. Your end tables are a little short so I would get taller more substantial lamps. I don't think the art gives the space any pizazz.

Ok, two votes for one and two for the other? This is just about where I started :) But somehow it helps anyway to get the different opinions. rhome, thanks for your offer, if you can do it in any nearest future it would be great (and I promise, no big expectations). If you can't, not a problem. I am already amazed at the input you are able to provide here while raising such a big family. as far as malhgold's idea, I love open shelving in kitchens in magazine photos. But in our case I think we'd give up too much practical storage if we changed that cabinet to open shelves and the adjacent cabinets to glass. It would limit us to dishes in all three. With wood doors, i could have my everyday dishes in the cabinet to the right of the sink and any other kitchen items in the cabinet to the left. Another concern is dust since we wouldn't have items we use and clean daily on the upper shelf above the sink. So whatever goes there would have to be dusted regularly. Also we have those other glass cabs on the other side, so it could end up being too much glass all together. So as you cal tell I sort of talked myself out of that idea. And I did check the 12" cabinets, they are 10.5 deep inside and i've taken my plates and pots down there for a "trial fit". Also, we may be able to move the lower cabs out by 0.75" and make the uppers 13" and 10" deep which would be great. I just have to confirm with the KD after the final measurement they did this week that we have enough room by the basement door.

IMO the carpet should be gone and replaced with wood floor all the chair rails need to be removed you need tables lamps and yes I would do a fixtureover the piano as for art that is what I would choose first then wall color so go shopping for art you love it can be quite large over that sofa and I don’t usually care about it beig 75% of the sofa width it can be as wide as the sofa no problem IMO.You will need drapes I often decorate to go with my art as we collect originals and want them to really be the stars in a space.I have this fixture over my baby grand it is very interesting it is called Icarus this is what I mean by not following the rules about art size

Will do! There are waterproof completely covering sofa, but my wish was thick fabric and so many have that grid texture which I didn’t care for. I’ve googled which shows a lot of venders for specific search engines vs just searching every company separately that I could think of. These are velvet which I read are ok. A chenille is what I also read to be pretty tough on scratches and tears but chenille brings up mostly velvet. Not sure how I’ll like the feel/sit of velvet but we’ll see? I guess on the love seat old piece may not make too big of a deal but on the big sofa, OH is on that mostly and his fanny may be more particular 😂 but he does realize we need to keep that piece under cover since we just purchased that for quite a pretty penny!

This is a bit of a reiteration, but if you love a vintage/ boho look, look for vintage pieces as much as possible. You’ll save money, too. New pieces can be great, for sure, but vintage is really special. Other sources are Chairish, local antique stores, Facebook marketplace, free on the curbside- so many! Hunting for the perfect piece is a lot of fun. I’m always on the lookout. I agree that looking at lots of photos of spaces, and noting what speaks to you, is key. The book recommended above sounds great. If you want an eclectic look, try to get in touch with what pieces/ periods/ looks you really LOVE. Different periods can mix in your space. In my 1915 Craftsman bungalow living room, for example, I have a MCM Jens Risom couch, an Eames lounge and ottoman, and a George Smith armchair (all Craigslist) , several light wood tansu chests (local shops), and several antique European pine cabinets, and armoires and a bookcase(yard sales, Craig’s and local antique store). I have Target copies of Aalto stools, stacked, for extra seating or tables when guests come. The art was collected over time, as were the lamps and ceramic pieces, from flea markets here and in Europe, and yard sales. In fact, it all was collected over time. And none of it was particularly expensive! I do love a bargain. It’s a life’s work:) and didn’t happen quickly. If you really love something, it will work with everything else. But first you need to figure out what you really love, what speaks to YOU. That’s the art of it.

It's reading quite a bit chilly, and shiny.

Depends how far you want to go, and can go.

Frankly? If the couches stay, I would lose the pale beige on those walls.

Want a bit of glam girl? Richer? Warmer?

Palest !!!!!blush or gray equally pale on the walls, or really brave and cozy

A really deep gray like charcoal

Lose the coffee table for something all can reach

If you use two standing lamps? You wont need those side tables!

No matter which way, any way....

change the paint color

Warm the metal, and tables need not match

A better light in the ceiling: ) even a pretty drum shade will help

I love these ideas. I definitely want to warm the space and get rid of some of the silver.

As far as the table…that’s exactly what I want but I am just terrible and setting up the table. The picture is great and I will def look for some of that today. I was wondering if I should get a wooden table. I want less gray in the room.

Will a drum fixture give me a lot of light? That’s what I would like. I was also thinking about painting it Benjamin moor white dove. One of my favorite whites. But my kitchen which is kind off of the living room is white also. Should is it okay for that much white?

No to white walls if your goal is warming up the space and getting rid of gray.

What about a grasscloth on the walls? But I'd get a rug first to set the palette. Then pull colors from the rug for the walls and accessories.

I like the overall feel of the space I agree drapes and much fuller would be nice .I do not like the wall color or the art if getting rid of the gray is the point then get some art with a bit of green it it and something you love to look at . The light does nothing for thstspace the drum shade is okay better than wht you have Ilove this color for walls it is a total neutral for me I cut it 50% if a hint of colar is all you need and before choosing the wall color Get the art and drapes in a color you love then match the paint to the drpe s. I like faux silk for drapes at lest 2.5 times the width of the rod for sure. I then woudl choose fewer pillows in colors from the new art , just think if you need to move pillows to sit you have too many. A rug would be agreat addition again in a color from the art so maybe just a darker shade of a color from ther e.
