orange in the garden 2023
Comments (56)Ken I adore that Azalea so much. Fantastic pics everyone. I am a fan of orange and posted most of mine before but I think I missed some. NOID that is possibly Sammy Russel. It did not translate well but is burnt orange in person. That is my adult daughters hand. You do not want to see mine lol! Monarchs are so beautiful. Phlox p. Orange Perfection is one of my favorites. Ground wasp is so colorful and quite docile with humans. Unknown beauty Trollius not fully orange but enough to count I think? Now on to the red thread!...See MoreThe best O daylilies 2023
Comments (13)I have two O's to contribute. One is not my best grower, but is one of my all time favorites just because of the face. With the definite lean towards UF's the thrill of ruffles seems to be fading for some, but not for me. That's what drew me to daylilies back in the day. WOW! look at those ruffles! So here is one of my all time favorite ruffles. This is a shot of one of it's first blooms in 2015. I've lost it 2-3 times (it is a sev), but I have always replaced it: Orchids and Gold (along with another long time favorite of mine, Sour Puss): My other one is no surprise. It's just been a work horse for me. Even in this years exceptionally high heat and drought, it flushed it's little heart out again and again. Comments (21)Here are mine (and btw, I do concur about Raspberry Suede being a great daylily. Every year it is one of the best plants in the garden. Somehow I always overlook it and forget to take it's photo). Here's one not many people grow but should. This is a Culver and it is one of the only daylilies that reblooms in my New Hampshire garden. This plant has wonderful plant habits, pristine foliage and sturdy scapes, blooms profusely and has great color. REBECCA HOCKRIDGE RUNNING IN THE RAIN, makes the list every time; a big plant with great color, large blooms, hardy and robust. Sets pods like crazy. Another vote for RUBY SPIDER. What can you say other than it's fantastic? Every....single....year. Even in year's of severe drought. This was last summer where it never got watered and the ground was bone dry. REMINDS ME OF FIREWORKS, I got this from Nancy in KY and I'm offering my photo of it as well. Reliable, year after year. Great size, color and performance. Very eyecatching in a clump. REGINA SITKO, I seem to be 'copying' other people's nominations today! But this is a great one. I have one more to squeeze in and it's another one already shown. It (and Come Sail Away) has been the best of the Guy Pierce intros in terms of hardiness and vigor. Most don't do that well here but this one is good. And it sets lots of pods for me. It's truly lovely. ROSEMARIE LOUISE...See MoreDaylily seedlings 2023
Comments (53)Thank you for the encouragement, Nancy. Watching your posts and seeing all the toothy seedlings you've created is inspiration. I've crossed over to the 'toothy side'....and have a few seedlings. So much for focusing! LOL. I started buying them to hybridize and sell seeds on the Lily Auction but fell in love with them and grew out a few crosses myself. I haven't seen the fruits of my labor yet but I believe some will bloom this summer. Sherry, I think I will keep a list of friends here who might want my reject seedlings. I will feel better if someone 'adopts' them. I will keep you all updated with a post in late summer and see if there are any 'takers'. I also think it will be fun to see what they will do in other parts of the country....See Morehoosier_nan (IN z5b/6a)
