has anyone had a spinal injection?

i am riddled with osteoarthritis. both hips were replaced in 2000, still going strong. my right knee is bone on bone but i'm living with that for now.

started having lower back pain around june of this year. it's been chronic for many years, i wear a back brace if i'm being active which helps. but over the past few months, the pain has become severe and has limited my activity to pretty much zero which is beyond frustrating since i live alone. raking leaves? forget it! walking the dogs? no way! even walking short distances is pure torture. in my current condition, shoveling snow off the deck just isn't gonna happen.

i went to my ortho dr. who referred me to a neuro dr. in the practice. xrays showed some problems that he thought could be helped with p/t so i did 5 weeks and all that did was make it worse. i jumped through all of the insurance hoops and had an MRI about 3 weeks ago. next step is a steroid injection which is scheduled for this coming thursday. i had back surgery about 13 years ago for some herniated disks and the recovery was brutal. it's the last thing i want to do again so i'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that this injection will alleviate at least some of the pain, enough to get me back to doing simple things without having to suffer.

just wanted to see if anyone has been through this and if it helped.

as my late husband used to say, gettin' old ain't for sissies!!
