What’s With all the Bronze Exterior Lights?

Good Afternoon, Houzzers. Wondering if you can, as always, enlighten me a bit here. I’m just finishing up our second floor addition project and cannot find good-quality, modern-looking double Floodlights in MATTE BLACK. Why all the “Bronze” around instead? Will it “blend in” well enough with my matte black wall lights already installed? Please make some suggestions with pics if you can. Hoping to get something like in this pic but in Black. We live in NJ. Thx!!

Outdoor lighting should follow Dark Sky principles to illuminate only areas that need it avoid areas that do not. Fixtures should shine light downward not outward as floodlights such as that pictured do. Analyze the area that needs to be illuminated and select a fixture that lights only that area.

At Home Depot, you can limit your search results to Dark Sky compatible by selecting "Dark Sky" under 'Outdoor Lighting Features' for Outdoor Wall Lighting. This Barn Light Matte Black Modern Farmhouse Outdoor Medium Lantern Wall Sconce, for example, would be a suitable Dark Sky light for installation over a garage door

I still say bronze. It is done a lot in the high end homes in Atlanta, usually paired with a lighter stone/brick exterior. It is lovely. Here is a picture of a light brick french house with the bronze windows . . . not a great picture but you get the idea. Beautiful with copper gutters. Our door hardware is like that in your first photo - a very dark brown with just a touch of the lighter shade showing through. I really like it. I have found that matching it exactly in some of the other accessories that I've brought in has been impossible, but even that lighter shade looks just fine with it, IMO. I love ORB. I think I'll still love it even when it's no longer "in style." ;-)

I like your first choice, as I think the scale of it works (if that is the size of the cardboard in your mock up) Don't worry about gaps, coloured caulk can be used to fill big gaps. I like that the first one is vertical, it works nicely on your house because it is a bungalow, and the fixtures are on the high side. You may have to check where the connection is for the first fixture, as it may not end up where you think it will, without moving the octagon box in the stone.
