Which size painting to get?

Not sure which size print I should go with, 26 x 32 or 37 x 46. I would have to get it framed and envision going with a wood frame to coordinate with all the wood I have going on in the house, probably around 3" thick frame - ?

Looking at just the cardboard taped to the wall, I like the scale of the larger size on this wall from my primary view, which is from the kitchen looking down that hall, but am concerned the frame will push it over the edge to being too large and visually overwhelming.

There will be nothing else on the wall or below it (there's a 90-degree turn off to the right, anything like a small sitting bench or cedar chest will interfere with walking through there. The foyer is off to the other size.

The cardboard is not centered on that wall. Larger looks best to my eye.

I've never used BP before this year, so I'll give you my Z5 experience. New England 'traditional' style: "Hilled" veggies included the squashes, melons, cukes, and Zucchini types. Typical arrangement was a hill about the size of a car tire, and about 6 seeds planted in a circle within the hill. It works. Last year DH poured me a giant 'burm' out of loam & compost mixture for my 'hilled' items, and that worked, too. I planted the same way, just spacing the circled seeds several feet apart along the burm. THIS year I'm doing BP on half of my garden. All of my garden is broken up into squares & rectangles- raised beds (but no structures holding them up...just large square humps.) In the BP areas, I've planted tomatoes, corn, melons (this year they're going up a wire-mesh fence) cukes (also on the fence), beans, squash & zucchini. These all like warm soil, so that's why I'm trying the BP this time. I can only guess that they were using the 'house shingle' thingy for support of their 'raised' hills? Dunno on that one. Painting cabinets two colors- which should be the upper?

Since upper cabinets are what tend to make a kitchen feel closed off, far better to do the lighter color on the uppers so that they recede as much as possible. They'll also reflect more light. Even better is if you use the same cream on the walls as on the cabinets. Using the black on the lowers will also help ground the room. Your first instinct is correct, I believe. Black on the lowers, cream on the uppers. GREAT kitchen in Maine!

Which style of painting do you recommend for me?

Delina, I paint in oils, acrylics and watercolor. I paint portraits, land and seascapes. And, as you will see if you click the link, cypress knees. Also if you look to the left of the painted cypress knee you will see a portion of one of my portraits. Now I tell you all this because I have found that while one can learn various techniques such as tole painting, rosemaling, or double loading the brush, each person develops his/her own style. So I can only offer you the following. Acrylic paints dry more quickly unless an additive is usedto extend the drying time. I would think that unless you have a very large piece of one color that would not be necessary. A large brush would quickly cover without leaving overlapping brush strokes. Geometric forms, squares, rectangles, trianges, circles, etc really do not require any specific stroke. Once you have created your design and transferred it to your board, it is quite like color book painting or fill in the lines. To avoid colors bleeding, let one color dry before adding the second. For your straight lines, you might want to use paint markers and a ruler, or blue painting tape that won't stick and remove paint. You can find that tape in the hardware/paint section of your local stores. It is important to only use the tape on dry paint, paint your stripe and then remove the tape before the stripe is dry. Gorgeous door. I had painted wood banister and woodwork in my last house. It does show scuffs. And mine was the old oil based paint so much more durable than modern. This is how I feel about painting wood - if it has great grain and looks really good, then don't paint. I don't see either situation for your woodwork, but I also like wood and am really lazy so I would not paint. As far as bang for your buck, a new window is relatively inexpensive compared to all the years of joy it could bring you. As far as dark, your dark green carpeting is not doing you any favors. I had carpeting on my stairs at my last house and stuck with it because it makes the stairs seem less dangerous if I fell down them. But I would definitely go with an indoor/outdoor close weave kind of carpet, made for heavy traffic areas. Just do the treads if you need to save money. I love the idea of wall lights, sort of like what pot lights can do only appropriate for the style of your home. Gorgeous home details, BTW. Not sure how much your budget is and how much you want to tackle. I can't see how painting your woodwork will go with the style of your house and it doesn't seem like you want that much of a redo on everything else. Why do you have your entry way rug taped down? I could see adding a larger lighter rug there to tone down the dark of that groovy floor tile.

I like the larger size too. A floater frame might look good on there--something like this.

I would take both poster sizes to your frame shop and see what size frame and what size mat makes sense with the picture. I just dis this last week and both the frame width and appropriate scale of mat really changed the size of the overall piece.

I like the size of your larger cardboad and think that should be the total size for painting, frame, and mat.

I agree with Kendrah. I think the larger size looks good, but that might mean having the smaller size artwork framed.

The artwork is on canvas - no need to frame it.

Technically not required, but I think canvases look more finished if they’re framed.

Get artwork with some detail since it will be viewed from a very close perspective at times. Something that begs the eye to approach since you will be so anyway.

Edit: @stiley suggestion works because it has the foliage detail plus the clouds for an open airy feel in a close in space.

Change the ceiling light to a spotlight for the art. They have inserts that use the existing fixture.

Are you planning on putting anything under it? Like a console or chest? If so, that will determine the size.
