Farrow and Ball dark color isn't covering well
Comments (35)I have never used F&B, but I don't think that matters. This is a problem normal painters have using dark colors since the paints became all acrylics. The problem is usually the location of windows and the location of the wall being painted. I mean...is that a ceiling? This is the reason people will say that they used the same product and it looked perfect. Each room is different because of the way the light from the windows hit the surface being painted. If you want to fix this problem, then spray it!...See MoreHelp! I'm stuck - and lurking just isn't working :)
Comments (42)One particular treatment that was done in the 18th and 19th c. when it came to paint, was to paint the entire room in the same color, trim and all. The modern interpretation of this would be to do a higher sheen level on the millwork. This could address the issue of the different sizes of doors and such and minimize the horizontal banding effect of a wainscot. * * * * Mount Pleasant, a Georgian house that has slowly been taken back from colonial revival notions of what it looked like to what it Really looked like --based upon physical analysis-- had very Interesting paint treatment: The entire room, including all the heavy Georgian detail, was painted in one color (a rather drab gold if I remember) The cupboards had a bright paint treatment on the interiors, and there was a brownish black band of paint that ran around the lower 6-9" of the perimeter, intersecting EVERYTHING: door jambs, doors, fireplace, etc...a cut line straight across. (Apparently to hide the splash marks from washing the floors and muddy clothing and such)...See MorePainting over Wood Paneling thats has been previously painted?
Comments (2)I had to do a google search to see what French Grape looks like. It is a deep red, which is one of the more difficult colors to right. You will need a tinted primer and at least two coats of paint. You will want to go over the walls carefully looking for paint drips to sand down and any holes to fill. Your bottom photo is upside down on my screen. You need to decide what color to paint that trim piece above the baseboard molding. I would paint it white to match the baseboard. Yes, you can just move your furniture to the center of the room....See MoreHelp painting dark wood bookcase a lighter color
Comments (21)I use a damp rag rather than tack cloth. Brushes should be washed and keep for a good long time. Primer and paint are costly. You'll only need a single sheet of sandpaper for the job if wood is in good shape. I painted 30 year old oil finished oak plywood bookcases last year and am delighted with the results. A lot of coats and a lot of sanding but it's easy work as primer, paint and poly all dry very quickly and there weren't any tricky areas. Scrub them clean, sand lightly to knock down any rough areas and wipe off the dust, prime with the correct product which depends on what you are covering and sand/wipe again, paint with matte/flat paint 1-2 coats and sand very lightly then use a wipe on polyurathane. Do several coats of the poly sanding with 400 grit sandpaper and wiping down between coats. No tackiness [blocking] when you do this. It's the semi gloss and above that block. Satin and flat/matte don't do it as much apparently. I did satin on the kitchen cabinets and no blocking there either. Have to agree though. Wait and see if you want to do this in the new place. Maybe dark will work better. I was very happy with the way the book spine colors pop against the light gray paint I used though. And no blocking at all!...See MoreRelated Professionals
