My first "steal" of my new kitchen - My fridge!
Comments (8)I got it on eBay from a local seller who installed it in a new kitchen remodel, decided it was too big and took it right down. My contractor installed it almost three years ago and it's going strong. No issues. I got a NewportBrass faucet where the owner changed their mind and never installed it. That was about 80% off retail. There is a lot of that kind of stuff on eBay. I stay away from the commercial sellers. Like I said, it took a lot of time and patience...my husband thought I was nuts until he saw the finished product (and because I didn't drag him along for all the hunting)....See MoreUPDATE on my "I Hate my Kohler Stages Sink", new Karbon facuet
Comments (10)SO glad it's at least somewhat helpful. Seriously, I wouldn't know about even HALF of the things I've put into my kitchens over the years if it weren't for the real-life experiences of actual cooks who do their kitchens and share here. The faucet was chrome, so maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but we had several other chrome elements, so it worked for us, and at 40% off what I was expecting to pay, I was IN. Karbon for $769 This faucet is seriously amazing. Count me in the fan club!! A total aside, but the AutoTap was another purchase that has revolutionized how we cook. I remember reading about the TapMaster years ago, and I found the AutoTap for FAR less, and I'm in love. My ONLY beef with the KK faucet was that you had to turn the water off in order to revert back to a steady stream. The AutoTap makes it as easy as a tap of the toe. Love this thing. My other half came in with mucky hands and walked right over to the sink and just tapped it on. Nifty AutoTap #KitchenDorkLOVE...See MoreWhat to consider when buying a kitchen sink?
Comments (18)It was I who had suggested the double sink with a drainboard. Shannon_WI I mentioned NZ and OZ because this set up is not common in North America, except for the shallow six inch ones that I agree, would be useless. However, deeper one smay be available. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2664276/looking-for-stainless-sink-with-integrated-drainboard I had assumed that eveyone wanted the most efficient and environmental friendly procedure to hand wash itemss that weren't going into the dishwasher. The "running water" procedure, nessessary if there is only one bowl, of course wastes not only water but dishwashing liquid. To explain to people under the age of 40, using two bowls allows items to be washed, then put into the next bowl. After all of the items are washed, the tap is run in the next bowl and the items are quickly rinsed. The items are then placed in a drying rack, which must be on top of a drain BOARD. A drying rack can't be used without a drain BOARD, which is usually made of rubber which gradually detriorates. The SOLUTION is to have an integrated draining board. I would hope that households have used items collecting in the sink during the day until there are enough to warrant opening the dishwasher. Sometimes, dinner needs to be started but there are just a few used items in the left bowl. Salad foods can be washed in the RIGHT hand sink and put in a colander in the drain rack. Comments (20)Here's the current kitchen. Other than giving the kitchen an update looks-wise, problems include: 1. Downdraft gas cooktop- JennAir. The downdraft sucks flames and heat away from the hob and it's painfully slow bringing water to a boil. I didn't imagine that I'd really like the downdraft, but it's worse than I thought. I need a vent hood for proper exhaust. Performance is OK without the downdraft on, but that's not good when cooking with gas (but I'm doing it). I'm 95% sure I'm going to induction. There's a design challenge with the cooktop, in that it's not set in the middle of the counter space; it's biased to the right. I'd like it in the middle of that counter, and that means moving the cooktop to the left. That decreases the counter space to the left of the cooktop, unless I put the ovens there instead of the fridge (43" fridge). 2. The pantry wall cuts off the kitchen and prevents good flow across the room. It needs to go. 3. I'm a single sink person and the double sink isn't my groove. Although, I've gotten used to working with it and don't curse as much. 4. The trash compactor. What's there to say. 5. The wall oven/microwave will be replaced with a wall oven/speed oven (separate units) and maybe we'll put a separate microwave drawer, not sure. This GE oven runs almost 50 degrees lower than programmed. Overall, I find myself not cooking and baking as much, because the equipment isn't great, and I miss it!...See More- 2 years ago
