Design Dilemma Home Decorating Furniture

living room furniture placement

Hello interior designers! I need a piece of furniture to place reading books on, potentially some bar type items like glassware, decanters and a lamp.
My room is right off the kitchen and need it to all flow together. I like a transition/modern/luxe feel.
Should I place a credenza or large console in front of the large window? OR a smaller cabinet or console to the right of the window in the empty space?

For reference
Window is 70” wide
Empty wall on left is 45”

I would say a bar cabinet.

Dont know if this one is glam enough for you. One option could be to add a mirror in the back. But I also think it can work as is. The other thing is - I am not sure if a darker color might work better. At any rate, I think this one is still a contender.

I like that cabinet, lots of uses! Are you saying a darker piece would be a better fit for the room or lighter? Also, I am assuming this would be for the small wall?

I'd do a 3-seat sofa & your coffee table under the triple window with your chairs in front of the double window. Try a game table and chairs at the fireplace, or a simple reading chair and lamp angled right of the FP.

I agree with the others to place TV and attractive wide credenza on the large wall with a great sofa table in the back of floating sofa. Do you need to replace sofa or rug? If not, then a sofa table behind it, with new sofa pillows and two great arm chairs in cream and facing the sofa, and new round coffee table up on legs would give you flexibility for the future. A sectional can be very limiting without adding much seating. You do already have a chaise on current sofa. Etsy offers some great, affordable wood sofa tabletops in any length and height. Just use their search box--"console tables, hairpin legs"

I have a similar layout and right now have sofa where your chairs are and chairs on the sofa side arranged around an asymmetric coffee table. I also have poufs for additional seating. It isn’t perfect, but it is makes my family happy for now. New furniture to arrive next summer is a large, deeply kidney-shaped sofa on the same (window) wall that will loop around to face the fireplace, same coffee table, and a big (2-person) round chair down to the right of the fireplace, widening the room. We are also having floor-to-ceiling wood storage installed to the right of the fireplace. Draw something like this or lay out big pieces of paper on the floor to simulate layout? Minus the big chair (use your current ones instead opposite a leas dramatically curbed sofa?), I bet it would work for you!

Yes, the 45” wall. I have to check dimensions again, but i think this cabinet is 36” in width - with doors closed.

I am debating whether a darker cabinet might work better in that spot. But I really do like this one - and i like the idea that it will recede somewhat. So it keeps the space there more visually open than a darker cabinet would.

Would something this color way work? It has two stem racks and a wine rack inside as well. It’s 33.5 wide and 40” tall

Yes. That works. More glam. But if you can find similar in a whiter finish, versus what appears to be a grey (at least on my screen) I think it might be better.

Ooh yes that’s super cute. Are you thinking something a bit taller will also be more pleasing then a typical 29-30” cabinet?

Bar cabinet, one additional suggestion, one with a pull out/drp down mixing tray. This one is from Burke Decor and is expensive, but you could shop around and find others, I'm sure.

Do you have a recommendation for keeping the room from getting too “one tone” I don’t like a lot of color so I try to add texture and a couple finished (brass, black and polished nickel) but how do I add more dimension? I was thinking a black cabinet would be cool and add that punch but I actually hate dusting black furniture and I agree it will close in the room more. Any suggestions are very much appreciated!

Yes. You have that full gallery of pics immediately adjacent, so a liittle extra height on a cabinet there is good.
