Oh, hahaha, and the table is temporary. It’s just holding some home decor stuff I haven’t put away yet. It is funny how this house doesn’t seem to want to use the same decor items from the old house, it is like it has it’s own personality and the rooms call for something different. I am going to move the screen, maybe to the other side of the dining room table or behind the bar cart, which is just temporarily there also.

TV? It looks like the opening at the top should be further left. That makes room for the TV there. L shaped seating. Shown in this concept: Sofa/loveseat, two poofs, round coffee table, end table (lamp not shown), TV on a console table, area rug, tall plant. I did not measure the pieces so adjust size and postion. This concept swaps in a recliner or easy chair/ottoman. The TV is further to the right. A bookcase or shelves would be nice somewhere. If there's no TV these would still work.

Some specific replies, in order: Jenny, I tried the arrangement as you described and like it, it has the advantage of having a nice view out the window from the loveseat, and creating a cozier conversational area. The bench could go in front of the window. I've moved it temporarily to the foot of my bed where it is working well. (I have a different bench in the front hall.) Mytwo cents, I also tried the loveseat in front of the window and it looks better than I expected. Thank you for the diagram, so helpful. I'm going to add a photo of my sofa/loveseat fabric, and of the area rug. I still like the chair you sent me a link to, I prefer the lighter blue but think maybe the navy would look better with the current furniture and rug? I really like the window treatment however, though there is a bit of clutter, I adore the view out my window so don't want to block it. I'll add a photo. The hanging basket had to be shorn recently so isn't at its best yet but overall it's a lovely view. There is no pink in the area rug, just blues and greens and a cream background. The wall color is Sherwin Williams Liveable Green 6176. I like the idea of a blue coffee table. And I love all the pillows, I definitely agree they would pull in the painting (which I really like, too), as well as the carpet and walls, perfect choices, thank you so much. maymay99, I am open to another color, do you have a suggestion? I use blue and green in my kitchen and attached family room, like this room, with the addition of touches of yellow and a bit of pink. I was going for a more serene look in the living room, just blue and green, but am open to adding another color. auntthelma, if the loveseat is under the window, it does not block the entrance to the room on the north wall as I thought it would, there is room. And I agree about the sofa being more welcoming if it faces the main room entrance. simplynatural, thank you so much for taking the time to do the diagrams, that is SO helpful, both for furniture placement and to give me an idea of what else the room needs. We tried all the arrangements. And yes, I do still want to use that mirror (thanks for making that connection), it is beautiful, however, my husband just told me it may be too heavy to hang as the wall studs are not where they'd need to be. (I'm buying the mirror from a friend and can return it if we can't make it work.) #1 I like the idea of ottomans in the center and it is not a problem to not have a direct path to the door on the west wall, that is not a path that is normally used. (The kitchen is on the other side of the door and there is a separate, more direct way to access the kitchen.) The bookcases are a great idea, my husband and I both like that. #2 The loveseat moved closer to the sofa is cosier. I like mirrors used vertically but not sure it would work in this room, I'll have to look at it for awhile. #3 The loveseat in front of the window works a lot better than I thought it would, definitely a possibility. #4 Now that I've pictured round ottomans, that's what I want! Plus they would be extra seating. I do love my coffee table though and it works well in #2. All the diagrams and specific suggestions have been so helpful to me, thank you all again so much, you are all so kind. And I welcome any more thoughts or suggestions. I'm adding photos of my sofa and loveseat fabric, the area rug, the view out the window on the east wall, and the mirror that I love but am now not sure I can use. (And I'm wondering if it's a little fancy for the room? Thoughts?)

I was thinking that if you put 2 comfortable swivel chairs to the right as you step in (one would be partially at the fireplace), then to the left there would be one continuous curve of sofa to give you the 5/6 other seats you need. In front of that sofa seating put a huge ottoman or table. For lighting, if you can't squeeze a console with enough surface space for lamps, you could probably find a multi-arm floor lamp to put in the far left corner behind the sofa,, and a skinny floor lamp at the window end of the sofa just for reading. I think if you pick the "right" swivel and sofa your husband doesn't have to give up his massage chair, but that means you'd need to be willing to live with bold fat contemporary furniture everywhere, not the usual demure stuff. Shock of the new, and it might be way too much in the contet of your whole house. Whatever you do I think you should consider at the end whether an area rug with very dark tones in it helps make your sunken living room more of a choice than an irritating mistake.
