Make sure you have 450 lumens of light at the counter for task lighting from cans that are in front of you when you're standing at the island so your body doesn't create a shadow. Then pick anything you like for ambient lighting. Or something colorful without lights.. . .I'd wait until everything else is in there.

The floor is all the same color (one area there was cardboard down). Just poor quality lighting in the photos, thus the question. I am looking at keeping this a cottage, so nothing dressy. Rustic/casual ideas are great. I don't want an abundance of shadowing, so do I need to avoid glass? 2 large glass pendants was my original first choice. I really like the Rejuvanation Hood Pendant, but the dust? or glare? I also like the mini echo pendant by Tech Lighting. Looks like easier to maintain and no glare? So with a 90" X 55" island, would either of these work? Will I be sorry with the maintenance of glass globe?

over the island i would rather see something like this, than individual pendants over the isalnd. for the sink, i would do one 'down' light. 3 to me is overkill and 2 will look 'weird'. are you installing under cab lights as well? with the undercab lights, it will help with the sink area. 'down' light another example(where all the light is down in your sink - none 'escaping' up or out of course get the fixture to scale with the space.

I'm confused again! You mention 5 x 11', which I took to be your island, but in your drawing it looks more like 6'. I'm showing you ideas more in keeping with your drawing. Guidelines on pendant lighting for islands are: end lights are at least 6" in from the edge, lights are 30-32" apart, and hung 30-36" above the island. With your high ceiling you would go toward the higher end. (I did not establish that each of these lights could be hung from the height of your beam, but you would need to be sure of that when considering lights.) Your inspo lights are nice. In my kitchen they wouldn't work because I don't like the glare of bare bulbs or the constant cleaning needed with clear glass. I would prefer lighting that did not emphasize the lack of symmetry in the cabinets beyond the island.
