Jennifer, Pottery Barn has been selling the Megan chair for years so I suspect that a lot of consumers are satisfied with the chair. I hate to bash it, just wanted you to try it on for size so to speak. Parson's chairs are really popular right now. I got leather ones for a fraction of the Pottery Barn price and they're okay quality. Since they are destined for my dining room they won't see the abuse that say my kitchen nook chairs do. I tend to get bored with my furnishings and I often switch out chairs as the trends change so I don't like to spend a lot. I have a photo of the Pottery Barn chair compared to the one I ended up purchasing, you can see how much deeper and wider it is. The quality is comparible and my chair is sturdier so I'm satisifed. PS Don't pay attention to the slipcover, it's merely a musin pattern. If you have basic sewing skills, you might find it easy to prepare a custom pattern for your chair. Additionally, there are slipcover patterns that allow for a looser, generic fit. I think it's worth the effort to draft a pattern from muslin. Also, you can opt for coordinating piping and other options not offered by Pottery Barn.

I am showing 3 different shots of my living room: A few points: the drapes will be changed to either chocolate or copper color drapes. The green cabinet will be taken out of the room. The armoire with the mirrors will be painted white. I also have another piece of furniture (a small side table) that is painted white. I included a pic of my buffet because it shows the color of the dark wood in the room. I also have two small side tables in the same dark wood. The ottoman will either be slipcovered or I will get a dark wood coffee table. My idea is to "dress down" this room and make it more cozy. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I would love to know what you think of deciding on white or cream colored slipcover for the couch. Sorry about the sheet on the couch. It's for you-know-who (he's standing right there!) Almost all of my furniture is slipcovered, and I must say that the pieces of furniture that I have that are not, are the ones that give me fits. Also, my slipcovers are all quite light, and although we will be getting new furniture in the next year or so, I plan to get mostly white slipcovered furniture then, too. I have 3 little kids (soon to be 4), and they have really held up well. I think the secret is getting tough fabric that is washable. Most of my slipcovers are cotton canvas or duck, and they have held up to a lot of abuse. My kids have even colored all over the sofa a few times, and they still look really good. I don't find it to be a very big deal to take off the slipcovers. It reminds me of changing a big bed that is against the wall-- it is awkward and a bit of a struggle, but not something that would keep me from getting them. All of my furniture is from Cisco Brothers, and I have been really happy with them. My friends who have slipcovered furniture from Quatrine are happy with it, too.

Wow, thanks again for all the compliments! I've got three done so far. It has definitely gotten easier and each one is looking better. I thought I had enough fabric but ran and had to get a another drop cloth. Home Depot has changed the brand they sell so I was worried it wouldn't match. But after the bleaching I see that it will be fine. The bleaching/shrinking step is really important to this process. You need to soak the fabric in the washer with 2 cups of bleach for several hours (I did overnight), then complete the wash cycle and repeat again with 2 cups of bleach and detergent. Then throw it in the dryer. The fabric is really nice when that's done, plus they're preshrunk so should wash easily in the future. Foxes Pad, I think I remember you posting pictures of the those chairs--I agree they would look great slipcovered like this. I'd try it first with just the slip cover and then see if it needs paint. I have two vintage bergere chairs that I'm going to try upholstering with drop cloths next, and I think I'm going to paint the wood. I also want to thank this board for inspiring me--I've really enjoyed looking at everyone's home photos and various projects posted over the summer. This is what encouraged me to get started on this!
