One thing that helps with cutting down on how much space Outlook takes up is to empty the Deleted Items folder -- if it's trash, you need to get rid of it altogether. Also, if your aunt sends out messages and attaches anything (photos, documents, etc.), she should delete that message from her Sent Items folder (or at least delete the attachment from the sent message). She's got the "original" on her hard drive, so she doesn't need another copy of it in Outlook. Then, be sure to empty that Deleted Items folder again! Your aunt can create a new Personal Folders File (also known as an Outlook Data File) in which she can store the messages that she really, really wants to keep. These files have a .pst extension and can only be viewed from within Outlook. Once the .pst file has been created and messages have been moved into it, you can move the .pst file to a jump drive (also known as a thumb drive). You will have saved important messages while at the same time cleaning out the mailbox and reducing the size of Outlook on the hard drive. If you need to get to those messages again you can insert the jump drive again.

Books are my friends LOL I have found in doing some investigating that in all of the big hotmail changes (whether we want them or not unfortunately) they are also making some very sneaky changes and putting some peoples info out there with out them knowing it. I have zero info about me on my hotmail info so nothing to share there but here are some interesting things pointed out in windows secrets article. Hotmail's social networking busts your privacy I never look at the new today page I have mine set to go directly to my inbox so I had no idea about all the stuff that is now shown on that page. I just looked at mine and I can see lists of several people that I know and in the lists it tells who they are new friends with! I am sure these people have no idea this info is being broadcast all over the place. for those that use hotmail, windows live, messenger etc any of those you should definitely read the article and check out these settings. I think some of you are overstating the case. As I understand it, it's a software driven context review for ad placement and nothing more. It's the same as Google or any other search engine does when you do a search (look how the ads magically bear some connection to your search term and your location). It's what Gardenweb does when you're reading forums, the pages show ads triggered off of key words. You can't stop the machine analysis but if you don't like the ads, tack an ad-blocker on your browser. There's no geek with thick glasses reading your nasty email to your sister. There may be other things in the world invading your privacy but I don't think this is anything to worry about.

Patti, this applies to members of any Yahoo Groups. I can't say it applies to their email accounts, but I wouldn't doubt if it does. You'll have to read their privacy statement in the email accounts to find out for certain. This is a portion of the privacy statement for their Groups, which obviously is little privacy at all. But it was not excerpted from the privacy statement of their email accounts or toolbar. The Privacy Act where the internet is concerned is still very fuzzy. I think they are required to tell people what they do in their privacy statement. I also think they are required to provide viewing of the privacy statement along with their terms of use at the time you sign up. Most of us don't read those, just assuming we will not violate familiar rules. They rely on us not reading them, but, it's a good idea to read them whenever joining a website or group, when creating email accounts, and when installing anything.
