I received this email. You might be interested in knowing Yahoo and their advertisers put tracking cookies on your computer. Here's the email.......

If you belong to ANY Yahoo Group - be aware that Yahoo is now using "Web Beacons" to track the Internet navigation of every Yahoo user. It's similar to cookies, but allows Yahoo to record every website And every group you visit -ANYWHERE- on the Internet, even when you're Not connected to Yahoo.

To stop this privacy invasive surveillance, go to Yahoo's updated privacy statement at:

http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/details.html

About half-way down the page, in the section on cookies, you will See a link that says WEB BEACONS.

I am so stupid when it comes to things like this...

Is this a one time thing?

I have a Yahoo mail account and a Yahoo tool bar. What else do they have that a person might use?

Just wondering how they can do this...is it legal?

here's how you break it. You sit down with spouse, and say, I have a problem. i don't trust you. I need your help. Let's try something - transparency. You be transparent with me, I'll be transparent with you. I promise not to snoop, but if i ask you to show me, will you agree to do so? Also, Please offer me any information you can without me asking so that i can be comforted. A trustworthy, loving spouse will hopefully be open to a path towards change, especially if you do your part to stop the snooping. Then, after a certain amount of time of transparency exercises, it is on the distrusting spouses side to DECIDE to trust. it is as simple as an overnight decision to trust the other person. Who wants to live a life of crazed suspicion? If the transparency eases your mind, then take it the next step and decide to stop. trust that if there is truth, you will be shown that when it is necessary. It is the responsibility of both to create trust. You can only be in control of your part. If you are incapable of trusting, either because the other party is truly untrustworthy, or because you are not willing to trust, then your relationship will be unhealthy and miserable.

Sounds as though there are lots of animal lovers in your new neighborhood, but not a lot of animal caretakers. Some people just don't know what they don't know. THey know they want the cute and fuzzy, but not that they grow up and might need work! So, it sounds like you have an opportunity here! You can be an example for your neighbors as to how to care for an animal at the very least. You can also take it one step further and maybe provide free literature on vet clinics and low cost spay and neuter to your neighbors. If you don't have those services available locally, you can work to make those services available by joining a rescue group and working with other like minded folks. What I'm trying to say is what some other posters have said: there is POWER in numbers. Join a group. Found a group. Get the local kids involved in educational efforts and maybe they won't grow up to be their parents! You feel overwhelmed and a little alone now, but if you make contacts with other like minded folks, your effectiveness as an agent of change multplies! One person can't save them all....but a dozen people can save a neighborhood. It's like the old shampoo commercial. You tell two friends, and they tell two friends, and they tell two friends..... and the next thing you know, your county is actually opening an animal shelter where none existed before and the deputies just shot stray dogs (true story!).

May I make one suggestion that has nothing to do with certification, nor the question you actually asked? PLEASE impress upon the attendees the importance of LISTENING to the consumer as well as CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING? It may not play into the certification process, but if you're going to take time out for entertainment, at least spend 5 minutes on how important it is to design a kitchen that's right for each consumer. Let me tell you my experience--we had an old (early 50's if not earlier) kitchen--complete the double drainboard/double sink and only 15" of useable counterspace, and not nearly enough storage. 20 years ago, when we decided to redo it, I went to several kitchen design places and home centers. I knew what would work efficiently for my kitchen needs, as a home ec teacher who had also helped redesign a large classroom kitchen, I was familiar with a lot of the principles involved. NOT ONE designer would listen to me. They all just tried to push their own ideas. In the end, they all lost out--we opted to use MY design, and were our own general contractors. The kitchen is amazing--2 decades later, I wouldn't change a thing in it. I've had dozens and dozens of compliments over the years about how great it is to work in. It was one of the big attractions that helped sell our house quickly when we listed this winter. I will be sad to leave 'my' kitchen behind when we move. The principles of kitchen design are important, but they mean nothing if the designer cannot customize a plan that will work for the customer. Oh, I should probably mention that my design? I have 10.5 feet of counter space--in the same kitchen that used to have only 15" and loads more storage. Your goal is to get these people certified and that involves the facts, figures, principles, rules, etc--but I'd love it if you could at least mention the importance of the human factor. Thanks--I only posted this because I was SO frustrated that NO ONE was willing to put aside the so-called kitchen planning 'principles' to help me design the right kitchen for me.

Betty according to the posts you recieved all 12 of your blocks. You recieved two from Juttz. She stepped in for Mollie who had some issues come up and contacted Juttz to let her know she just couldn't continue. Judy decided to make an extra block for the members that would not recieve one from Mollie. Instead of me having to make them. Sometimes this happens and someone just can't continue. But we always try to make sure that you recieve your 12 blocks. When we know that this happens. I am sorry you didn't sign up this year because of this. Some people didn't even get 12 blocks because so many people left the group. But there were a few of us this last year sending extra blocks to try and make sure everyone got as many as possible. Be thankful you were a Sunbonnet Susie and actually had a great group. The Rippettes last year fell apart and ended the year with only 5 or 6 members still sending. But we percevered and tried to get them as many blocks as we could anyway. I know that I make it perfectly clear from the get go that this is a year long committment. But sometimes life just happens and things can't be forseen. We all have to take this into account. Mollie told her group leader she couldn't continue and that group leader made the decision to fill in herself rather than try to find another person. I'm sorry if this may not have been relayed to you. And to make the comment that well Mollie's Birthday was in January just isn't right. She did the best she could and when she just couldn't anymore she told Judy so that a replacement could be found. Because she didn't want anyone to be shorted a block. I am truly sorry if this may offend you but I find it highly offensive to make that snide remark when you recieved 12 blocks from all those great ladies in your group and so many others didn't this last year because there group members just fell of the face of the earth. Patti, this applies to members of any Yahoo Groups. I can't say it applies to their email accounts, but I wouldn't doubt if it does. You'll have to read their privacy statement in the email accounts to find out for certain. This is a portion of the privacy statement for their Groups, which obviously is little privacy at all. But it was not excerpted from the privacy statement of their email accounts or toolbar.

The Privacy Act where the internet is concerned is still very fuzzy. I think they are required to tell people what they do in their privacy statement. I also think they are required to provide viewing of the privacy statement along with their terms of use at the time you sign up. Most of us don't read those, just assuming we will not violate familiar rules. They rely on us not reading them, but, it's a good idea to read them whenever joining a website or group, when creating email accounts, and when installing anything.

Thanks, I did that.

Now I am getting a message on my Yahoo toolbar to upgrade my toolbar now. It may have been there before and I didn't notice it.
