So bummed... my white cabinets are creamy
Comments (31)The truth? I like your cabinets. I really do. They are lovely and you did some fun things with their design. I don't like the trim in that room where it's right next to the cabinets. It kind of feels like a mistake to me. Certainly, a good option is to paint the trims in the kitchen only. But here's an alternative: What if you added a fairly bold accent color to ties this room together? Since you mentioned beach cottage and south Florida, what about an antique red that looks just a little bit nautical? Or a deep melon? Or a more bold blue (again, sort of a sailing color)? And be sure to paint those three open shelves in that color. I can't promise, but it could be that once you introduce that vibrant color, your coconut and white won't look like a mistake anymore. The one course I would avoid is repainting those cabinets. I have 3 kids, and when mine were your age, their fingerprints were everywhere. The big advantage to going to a large cabinet company (as you did) is their finishes are so much more durable than a paintbrush and a gallon applied at your house. Right now, you have something that can be washed off and withstand more nicks etc...don't mess with a good thing. I grew up with repainted cabinets at home, and they were terrible...even back when we had oil-based enamel....See MoreCan I leave the walls in my new build unpainted?
Comments (1)You want to paint because you won't see drywall issues until you paint. You want them to fix those issues. Generally the more paint the better so you have them paint the lightest color offered and then repaint it. Whether they absolutely have to paint maybe a local question. I wouldn't get an appraisal and therefore have difficulty getting a mortgage with unpainted walls. Cost varies a lot. We pay a guy $250 per room - like bedroom sized. But that doesn't include ceiling or trim and would be more with bare drywall. You can pay double I am sure. Paint really adds up. I pay about $5 a sqft if you are talking decent paint, bare drywall/trim and interior/exterior. The strange thing about this is that white or some version of white is generally among the choices when they are limited. Dark colors are much harder to get right....See MoreSuggestions for "creamy off white" paint for walls please...
Comments (5)IMO biscuit is a dated color for bathroom or kitchen sinks so maybe post some pics of the other choices already made to give me better idea of why this choice. BTW without seeing the other choices there is no way IMO to even begin to guess wall color...See MoreHelp! Do I paint my walls to match my Simply White cabinets?
Comments (11)Would definitely repaint the walls but, since the cabinets are darker than you anticipated, take that into consideration as you choose your paint color. The greater the color contrast, the more stark and visually jarring it will be. For cabinets with dark wood, you might consider a very pale brown -- a tan but without any pink or yellow hue. For the wall above the stove, unless the wall / backsplash you've chosen is specifically intended for behind a stove -- at/near a heat source -- you might consider adding a stainless steel panel to the wall. Some are plain, (some have a pattern - wouldn't want to clean those) https://www.amazon.com/Broan-SP3004-Backsplash-30-Inch-Stainless/dp/B000AMOBA8/ref=asc_df_B000AMOBA8/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167164501807&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5536208050760022543&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011058&hvtargid=pla-274535230950&psc=1 and some have shelves for your S&P and/or a rod for "S" hooks for hanging your stir spoon or spatula, etc., instead of needing an oversized spoon rest -- keeping things handy while you cook: https://www.vevor.com/products/vevor-range-backsplash-with-shelf-stainless-steel-backsplash-29x29-wall-shield?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgKi42-OT8wIVKmpvBB2UwgbKEAQYBCABEgLk9_D_BwE...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
