Comments (3)We had standard office furniture in our house for the first 10 years & this past spring put in built-ins. We're in the midwest & had custom built oak to match the rest of the house & it cost around $7000. I love the continuous run of counter, durability & not having papers & dust collect behind the desk. For us it was the right thing as we'll be in the house for a long time & we'll always utilize the room for our business, computer browsing, etc. It's the first room people go to when they visit since it's the room next to the entry. Also it makes great extra table space when we have company. If I had resale in mind, I might not have done it as it really limits the use of the room to that purpose....See MoreHome office layout help
Comments (15)I really like the bookcase on the accent wall - seems like it would overpower the wall next to the kitchen entrance. It looks really nice where it’s at in the pic. I agree with you about the gorgeous reflections on it too. If you don’t *have* to have a 2 person office I’d leave it as-is and enjoy the open space. If you do have to add a second desk would it work to put one facing the windows in front of the railing? You’d have to forgo the chaise (which sounds amazing) but it may be an idea to play with....See MoreHelp with home office layout
Comments (9)I work from home as well - and a lot of those cord storage solutions aren’t realistic for a true WFH setup. I’ve got dual monitors, printer, docking station... and the cords seem to be mating a multiplying. Oh and I have to be hard wired (not Wifi) per company rules... so more cords tethered to wall. Realistically, I’d say place your desk along that “back” wall without the window. Then place a low credenza or shelf under the window for additional items (printer, binders, whatever you’ve got.) I’m a flincher - I jump when people approach me from behind, and was nervous about having my back to the door. But honestly, at home there aren’t many interruptions :) In my office I chose to place my desk along the wall with the window - so I can see everyone walking their dogs all day long. (Haha) And- see deliveries coming so I can go on mute before the bell rings and the dog barks like crazy....See MoreIdeas for the home office layout
Comments (10)So that giant storage unit looks like it belongs in a preschool, not an office. Can you tell us something about your line of work that you need so much storage? The only stuff that belongs in your office is stuff you need to do your job. I strongly suspect you simply need to get rid of a bunch of stuff. Design your workspace as if it existed in your company’s building. You can add more personality since it’s in your home, but it should still look professional and functional. Like someone said above, remove everything from the room other than the furniture you plan on keeping. That includes everything from the giant storage unit. If you would not load it into your car and take it to your company office, don’t bring it back into the room. Go online and search for pics of “office with 2 desks.” Post some that you like....See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
