Jimmy Dean RIP
Comments (4)Big John brings back memories and I'm glad he had a big hit. I met him when he was a young guy, just starting out, I'd say he was about 23-25 years old. He was skinny as a reed and pale as a ghost. But when he sat down at the mike the wonderful voice came to life. coconut, come to think of it, I think you have something there about him "radiating energy of a very nice person". And I think our parents knew that, because they allowed us to go to his radio show, they even droves us there and picked us up. The bad boys, Sinatra and company came to town (DC) during the same time and especially during Kennedy's era, they invited us young girls to attend their "parties", but our parents said no. So no it was. Lol, I guess the parents knew best....See MoreUncle Jimmy

And, 'With a little bit of luck and my little black book I'll have some lovin' 'fore the sun goes down' Oklahoma Bill: 'there's no glory in a battle once you've seen its awful cost but there's glory in the knowledge that your flag is never lost and yet in the stillness of the nightime and all alone you hold a post you start cryin' like a baby sittin' there with all the ghosts you feel your buddies are pattin' your back though their guns're silent and still it's only a dog tryin' to love you my Oklahoma Bill' Last but not least, 'Old Rivers' 'with the sun beatin' down cross the fields I see That Mule Old Rivers And me....' Oh man, I am makin' myself cry! RIP Jimmy! Lori...See MoreRIP Glen Campbell
Comments (28)I was never a country music fan (though that has changed somewhat) nor did I really appreciate him back in the day. I do remember vaguely some negative reaction I had to him; possibly it was along the lines of Oly's post or something else. However, I think when I saw one of the segments on him a few years ago where he was on his last tour with his family, I listened again and really found a new appreciation of his talent. I also had not been aware what a first rate musician he was, and that he was a studio musician on many recordings. His voice, his talent, really were a gift and I was very upset when I heard he died. What a body of work he left for us to enjoy. May he rest in peace....See More- 3 years ago
