In his case it was probably the drinking that brought it on. Anyway he somehow managed to pull off one last tour - including an appearance on the Jools Holland show, taped in Britain - before it got worse. Although its effects were certainly evident to those around him even then.

Hi Susan. Yes, there is a Spike Luckstone, sortof. That is the name of my Second Life identity, that much you already know...yes I am a real person in real life ("RL" in Second LIfe speak), and the short bio you reprinted is mine and real. Ronf gave a nice if brief description of Second Life. It's not easy to really explain all about Second Life (SL) to someone who has never seen it or been in it. It is an online virtual world, but it is definitely NOT one of those computer video game types of things that most people are familiar with, it is much more than that. It is known as the "game with no object", because there really isn't a goal or object, there's no bad guys to shoot or damsels in distress to rescue, although there are areas made for roleplay where you can do those things if you wish. I discovered SL by accident a little over 3 years ago when I stumbled across this article on Businessweek.com: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_18/b3982001.htm It will tell you a bit about SL. SL may look cartoonish and silly to those who don't understand it or not been in it but the first thing an SL newbie learns is that although we are represented by cartooney-looking avatars, those avatars have real people controlling them with real personalities and feelings. Second Life is very much like this Real Life... except in SL we inhabit bodies made of pixels instead of flesh. Just like a really good book or movie can draw you in so you feel as if you're part of it, SL does the same. You are where your mind is. I've met many wonderful people in SL and have friends all over the world in SL. About the music... there are at least hundreds of clubs, bars, "outdoor" concert venues of all types and description and SL and as many musicians playing at them. The musicians may be anything from one person singing along with karaoke tracks, or accompanying him/herself on guitar or piano, to full bands playing live and streaming it into SL. Real-life band U2 has even done a live concert in Second Life. The google listings you mentioned of me (Spike Luckstone) playing in various real-life cities is a computer search-bot error, and understandably confusing. Weblogs of events in Second Life post event listing of who is playing and when, for their various SL venues. Somehow, search bots (little search programs designed to search and compile listings, in this case for entertainment) see these listings and somehow relate them to their cities. How that happens I couldn't tell you, but it is an error done by the website compiling the listings. No one in SL makes or wants these false and erronious listings, least of all myself, who supposedly am appearing or have played numerous places in real life that I have no intention of travelling to and I have no need or desire for false information or publicity of any kind. As for me, I am a semi-retired professional musician, I have never wanted to be a "star". My desire was to play guitar with good musicians, and play onstage with the "stars", not to be one myself. I did that already and don't need to do it anymore. I quit the road and settled down years ago. Playing in Second Life is nice because I can play whatever song I want, whatever instrument I feel like, can get bookings nearly any time I feel like playing, I have my own club where I can play any time I feel like it. I don't have to lug my equipment anywhere. I walk into my home studio and there is my stuff all ready to play. I can, and have, play a show in my pajamas if I feel like it. Another thing about music in SL, just about any wannabee can play in there... because of this you hear a lot of people who really are not professional-grade, but I'm glad they have a place that they can play and sing and for many of them it fulfills a life dream that they cannot do in real life. There are also some excellent musicians and bands in SL, as good as you'd find anywhere. I hope this clears up some of your questions. If I can answer anything else just ask. I do have a better-looking avatar now than I did when those videos were made. By the way, In Second Life, you can be anything or anyone you wish and no one expects your avatar to look exactly like your real life self. Why do that... I just finished reading a story his wife wrote in Guideposts and that she and caregivers did try to keep him home but doctor said was really surprised keeping him home as she does, they go through terrible stages, like she child proof cupboards and he could break them with man strength and he would eat anything from soap,etc. She took Glen and went looking and found this wonderful place but I can imagine the huge cost that comes with being at places like that and its freedom they have, they don't lock them up at all and Glen sang them a song she was told and stood up and then went to couch and lay down and took a nap, they found they are actually better with freedom. That is interesting hearing that as what do they do, lock them up in lock down wards. And Glen is very happy there and she would still tend to all his needs daily, bathing, feeding, etc. and saw to whatever needed to be done. And when Glen was first diagnosed the family traveled together as their three kids one is a great drummer and the daughter went and played with her dad and then the third another boy joined them too, they were all there. The wife moved her and Glen to Nashville where the kids would play and tons of friends and family there and she wondered if she made the right decision of moving him from their home they had. She truly loved him and that is so great in hearing especially with all of that kind of life and being put out there. He was a drinker but gave that up and hadn't drank she said for long time and then she was smelling it on his breath, turned out he was so stressed out and that is why she traveled with him and went everywhere with him on the road. She said he would follow her like a puppy and she said one day it got to her but its because they are scared and need you. She seemed to do the right thing and finding the right place too but at same time I know it would cost beyond what most people couldn't afford, too bad that its not balanced those things and all can get wonderful care and stay in wonderful places like those with lots of money. kathy

I was always a fan of his music. It was like the sound track to my life for many years. I still listen to his music in the car and it makes me feel wonderful and I am always thankful to him for that. I doubt drinking caused his disease and I prefer not to think that way. There are no perfect people. I am grateful for what he gave us all in his life and hope he is in a place of peace and joy.

So much talent! I loved many of his songs, but especially Wichita Lineman. Thought it was clever with the use of Morse code in the song. And Galveston and By the Time I Get to Phoenix.

i had to look up how it is you die from Alzheimer. I was under the misconception that your memories disappear, like words erased from a blackboard and that was the extent of illness. But it's even worse, as the brain forgets how to eat, swallow, breathe. A terrible, terrible disease indeed.

I was never a country music fan (though that has changed somewhat) nor did I really appreciate him back in the day. I do remember vaguely some negative reaction I had to him; possibly it was along the lines of Oly's post or something else. However, I think when I saw one of the segments on him a few years ago where he was on his last tour with his family, I listened again and really found a new appreciation of his talent. I also had not been aware what a first rate musician he was, and that he was a studio musician on many recordings.

His voice, his talent, really were a gift and I was very upset when I heard he died. What a body of work he left for us to enjoy. May he rest in peace.

He was. He was a long time session man before going solo after his stint with the Beach Boys. He was a member of the "Wrecking Crew", who backed many of the big recording artists in the late 50's/early 60's.

Yesterday on the radio they were playing Glen Campbell songs and one of them was Glen and Steve Wariner singing "Hand That Rocks The Cradle." Great song and loved the two of them singing together.

Not to take anything away from the Glen, a wonderfully talented singer and musician, I like to remember that the incredible Jimmy Webb wrote By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Galvaston, and Wichita Lineman, and John Hartman (RIP) wrote Gentle on My Mind.

All of the songs have been recorded by other artists, but it's the Glen Campbell renditions that we all remember so well.

I think as most know and has been reported, before redirecting his career to being a solo act, Campbell was a very well-respected session musician. I've run into credits for him in a wide range of circumstances, from playing with the Beach Boys to accompanying Peter, Paul and Mary on a concert tour. All successful performers must have special talents to an extent but his were exceptional.

I'll never forgive Jimmy Webb for writing McArthur Park, one of the worst and most cringe-worthy song of that era.
