Suggestions on modern farmhouse wood tones for subtle gray wall color

Hi all, looking to see if anyone has suggestions on what shade(s) of wood would go well with the existing wall paint in this area? Really stuck on the general design (photos are from previous owner of the property). I think I’m leaning toward modern farmhouse given the counter top legs etc. Perhaps industrial/wrought iron touches? But the wood color is super confusing for me - gray tone/weathered or natural? TIA!

You're not stuck with light gray paint. From what I can see it isn't great with the gold granite.

What is YOUR style? What are YOU trying to buy before you even move in? What size ? Do you know??

Gray is not playing well with the more fixed elements of the room. I think you should start with new paint, but it's difficult to tell what your cupboards are now a bleached wood or painted. Unfortunately your pics get smaller not larger when clicked on.

Just redefine your terms and adjust your "farmhouse" design inspirations to include wood tones. If you are only watching Joanna Gaines that's all youre going to see- and want. However, there are plenty of other takes on "contemporary farmhouse" out there. I honestly am not getting why browns/beiges/greiges are ok for painted surfaces, but not the same color in a wood stain. Yellow-golds, grays and whites are classic .... would fit quite nicely with your ca. 1980s gold toned wood. Re above statements that white trim will never go out of style.... well ya, some truth to that but the drab colorless interiors, the monotone white on white will. Mark my words, people in the not too distant future will be cursing the latex paint that soaked into the pores of their brick and caused it to spall, wondering "what were they thinking." Lets not forget that there was a time when people thought that a popcorn ceiling and metallic blobs of paint sponged onto every conceivable surface was a good idea!

There is a gray in the sofa fabric why not use that for wall color as for the west window get solar shades to protect the floor and the furniture allow you to keep the view and contro heat and UV.

Pella or Marvin architect series it is a trading game for anyone. You already learned that with your gables (good choice IMO-too many gables is mcmansiony). I chose certain high quality materials over square footage. 2900 sf was more than enough for my family of 5, and I didn't want to heat and maintain huge spaces that I rarely use (I don't have any need for a bedroom suite, for instance: I would never use my bedroom for sitting on a sofa or whatever people do in their 800 sf bedrooms) but that is just me. Another thing that baffles me is the 3 car garage with cheap doors. I'd rather have a smaller garage with wood doors. But everyone has different needs and priorities. Take some of these things in to consideration as you drive around and browse Houzz. Look closely to see differences between houses that you love and houses that look similar but don't have that special something. I thought I posted this last night but I don't see it here. Great ideas, thank you!!! Norwood Architects - I like the idea of going all white and leaving the windows. You’re right we can always paint the trim if it feels like it needs more color. Thinkdesignlive - I’m intrigued by going darker and dramatic! Wow, hadn’t thought of that! Do you think it could look super modern? We would definitely paint the concrete walls below. Could you point me to what you had in mind? misecretary - Thanks for taking the time to photoshop my house!!! Love the idea of enclosing the bottom and removing the top screened porch. In the future, we want to pitch the porch roof to match the house like the picture below.

Move in. Take what you have with you. A card table makes a dining table and you're not stuck with that permanently either : )

Two colonial posts are not anything to design around. Overall the space would accommodate a transitional style. Which means about anything. Way too soon to do much except move in and get a feel for your property and decor that reflects you. the cabinets are likely painted..not sure what you mean by wood. the general condition and layout and a few other things go into the planning before much else. Painting gray walls can happen of course but it looks like they painted everything for cohesiveness so you can live w that and figure out what you want in due time. There is good lighting and daylight too , so that keeps it quite pleasant for you....better than a lot of spaces .

You probably don't want to hear this, but the flooring is the biggest problem with the space. I would bet that the cabinets were a natural stained wood that the previous owners painted white to attract buyers. Ditto the gray walls. There's no contrast at all in the room except for the yellow-ish granite, which makes for a bland room.

Live in the space for a few months at least before you do anything. Make sure that the layout and appliances work for you--that's the biggest factor in a successful kitchen. If it does, then either paint the cabinets a contrasting color (green/blue) OR replace the floor with a medium toned brown wood. In either case, I'd replace the spotty granite with a subtle light or dark stone or butcher block.

If the layout doesn't work, then you have a larger project on your hands. Get a good kitchen designer to work out a good layout and then concentrate on the finishes.

the grey walls are fighting with the cream cabinets and the tans in the counters. why not repaint, it wont be hard if mostly empty.. behr has a paint called parsnip, its a very subtle pale with hint of green when the light hits it… will go nicely with cream cabinets and the counters wont fight it.

the colonial post can be changed out at a later time, but that is a mismatch also. replacing the counters is in your future also :)
