That is very exciting - congrats! My guess would be the little guy was migrating, and they were indeed attracted to the tomatoes. If you have room, I would grow some Cypress Vine or Cardinal climber to attract them and provide some late season nectar (both are easy to grow and very pretty too!). I don't have a feeder up but have a "Hummingbird garden" and see hummers here regularly (multiple x per day) during the summer once the Monarda starts blooming. These plants are top attractors, visited daily by the Hummers when in bloom. Lots of turf wars go on in that garden. :) Monarda didyma (red Bee balm) Monarda 'Raspberry Wine' Lobelia cardinalis Salvia coccinea Yvonne's Salvia Ipomoea x sloteri (cardinal climber) There are lots of plants scattered around that they like to sip on, but these are their favorites.

At the restaurant where I used to work, we had a chile relleno appetizer on the menu. It was not the battered, deep fried dish we are mostly familiar with here, but a lightly roasted (just to remove the skin, while leaving the chile with a bit of crunch)poblano chile, stuffed with room temp cotija cheese and shrimp, dressed with a light vinaigrette and pickled red onions. A very tasty, different salad course. The chef used poblanos as they are generally mild. One day, I had a customer come up to the desk to complain bitterly about how hot the chile was, after her waitress had promised it to be mild. I'd eaten dozens of these, as it was one of my favorite light lunch items and had never had one I would have the least worry suggesting to a blue-haired grandma...but, I went into the kitchen and sampled one. GOOD LORD it was spicy!!! Let me point out that I am the sort who has to be very, very careful about the amounts of chiles I use in my dishes when cooking for friends because if I can taste the heat, most of them cannot eat it without tears. The chef (who was Mexican) and I figured that this particular batch of poblanos must have cross pollinated with some habaneros or something. Moral of the story is....ALWAYS taste your peppers before you serve them!

Thank you so much. We have been through so much for the past year and a half. It's so nice to see the finish line. I just realized I said I met with the cabinet maker in November 2010. I meant NOVEMBER 2009!!! When I say they're not high-end, I don't mean the craftsmanship of the cabinets, I guess I'm talking more about the floors, the countertops, and the appliances. We've become quite humbled through this situation, and we've learned we can live without "things". That doesn't mean I don't have dreams or plans for the future. I am a girl, and.....we love to dream! ;) I'm going to try to post some pictures of our journey. Here's where we started. We've lived here since Dec. 2000. Life was pretty simple. Nothing out of the ordinary. Now the nightmare starts... Yes...that's snow in my foyer. Builder took roof off and basically took off. Standing in our living room looking into dining/kitchen. New kitchen was built beyond the tarp. Hired new builder to take over the mess, and get the house closed in. And here's what kept me focused, so I didn't have a breakdown. They brought the happiness to our lives when we were at our lowest point. Love 'em!!! Oh, and of course my big bear who never complained once.
