Then it is probably not Ph. Otherwise the plants look fine, it's jut that a few of them have the tendency to spoon in the middle and I didn't know what this was. Who knows... As for Home Depot gizmo...I just got the confirmation that it wasn't really working, certainly not to accurately measure light. I just received another light meter (Analog) which someone recommended on this forum and that seems to be quite reliable. I was surprised to learn that this one uses a tri-stage foot-candle range for precise readings on three scales; so fluorescent light is measured on a different scale than sun light. When I set the meter on fluorescent, it registered exactly 500 ft candles right at the plant level, so the set up I have really is the way it should be. Now I just need to receive my timer so I won't leave the poor plants under the grow light for all eternity, as I have sometimes done...and then get them pale in the middle. And some leaf rings for support...:-) Looks like this hobby is not as inexpensive as I thought it would be but it certainly is fun. On top of that, a few days ago I also got my very first mouse ear EVER! It's embarrassing how exciting this thing can get. :-))))

We have roofers this week. The first thing they did is to walk around the house and tell us what to move or cover "just in case". Someone working above your sink should've covered (or told you to protect ) what was below it. That is why contractors have insurance! Do whatever it takes to get him to REPLACE (in legal terms "make whole") your sink top. You had a new sink/counter with no marks on it until his actions caused a problem that damaged it. Accident or fluke, it is still HIS responsibility. God had nothing to do with this. When you work on a skylight, something can happen to that skylight. Since he is un-responsive, I agree that you should go the small claims route to get your sink replaced. Check with your local court to get the particulars on what you need to do. Also check with the state contractor's licensing board to see if you can register a complaint. They have a lot of clout here in CA, I don't know where you live. Good luck. Aesthetically the shelving can be as deep as the cabinet for a flush run, or shallower/less deed for an offset look. Matter of visual taste, not right/wrong, and matter of functionality. Do you use HUGE containers of laundry detergent and softeners? A gallon bleach or vinegar doesn't take up much room at all. Before you decide on depth and height of shelves make sure you stand in front of your washer/dryer and try to touch the wall behind the machines. Your reach will hep you decide.

I went through the roof experience last spring & summer. It's a process. I started with neighbors and other contractors who have done work for me. I asked friends as well. Then I browsed through Angie's List. I researched on the web what sorts of questions to ask. I compiled my list of questions, then went to the state to see if any of the roofers I was considering had any L&I issues, safety infractions or lawsuits. Those with any weirdness, didn't get a call. I interviewed five. One of them stood me up on our scheduled day to meet. He did not get my money. Another arrived 30 minutes late - without a call - and spoke to me in a condescending manner. (That tone some men take when they're interacting with a woman who they assume know nothing about anything.) He didn't get my money either. Another ( a neighbor referral) arrived on time, was professional and had a great record. I would have had to sell a kidney to afford his pricing. I kept my kidney. Another was promising, but when I asked for references, I never got a response. So, it went like that. I finally found a company who ticked all my boxes - a referral from a friend whose parents had used the company. Only problem was his company had only been in business for five years. A bit of a red flag, but I felt good about him. He got my money. I now have new a roof and both kidneys - win win. Some questions to ask: How long is this going to take? Do you have your own power supply or will you need access to power from my house? How are you going to protect my landscaping, shrubs and garden? How are you going to rectify any destruction? Do you use subcontractors? Who's responsible for quality control and what is the process that person follows? How long have you been doing this? Who's going to clean up the mess? GAF certified just means they have the GAF certification from that shingle provider. I interviewed a GAF certified roofer, and he made a big deal about the certification (he was the condescending one). All the other roofers pretty much said that it's the installation that's important - not so much the brand. Good luck and get ready for some serious noise.
