I would immediately ignore the advice to start immediately ripping things up and out.

Let the seller leave the draperies and anything else they want to leave. Might come in handy!

Would be great to see photos of the exterior, and also any adjacent spaces that will need to be coordinated visually with this room.

When you replace their furnishings with modern piecs and a modern color scheme it will per 100% better, it doesn't seem like a particularly dificult layout to work with just the old furnishings are a distraction.

I love your new house! I'm with momwheeles that with new furnishings and color scheme that match the more modern style of your home than it will change your room dramatically. I'd consider going darker on the walls and let the scenery out the window really stand out. While the angled windows look

great on the exterior, they are hard to cover with window treatments and still have them look good. I'd suggest putting blinds (solid not louvered) to cover the angle so on the inside they appear to be straight. If you don't need window treatments for privacy than I wouldn't purt anything on them. The pic is rough but hopefully it gives you an idea of what I'm suggesting. With a darker paint color I'd keep the fireplace as it is. It makes a great unique focal point and really stands out.

All of that is done after you are in the house. So when you move in take pics post here in comments DO NOT start another post .IMO window coverings are chosen after many other items are decided .

I am going to tell you the last thing you want to hear. Move in with the furniture you own and live in your home for 6 months. Figure out what you love, what you can live with, the things that drive you crazy and what is in disrepair and needs to be fixed sooner rather than later. Figure out how your family functions in the space. How will each room best fit your needs.

This time will also help you adjust to the new budget so you can better judge how much you can afford to spend on updates.

It is also the time to figure out your whole home color palette and start window shopping for the furniture you may want to buy.

Once that is known you can prioritize your updates and figure out what you can afford to change. By selecting a color palette for the home based on what you are planning to keep you can select the right neutrals to complement your art and décor and not make expensive mistakes that are almost inevitable without a good plan.

Oh -- you want "modern"

Paint everything gray. Standard advice.

Fwiw, last year I bought a house and furnished it without ever doing a "whole house" whatever because it made no sense for that house, given the way the light invaded different rooms in different ways. Might make sense for yours. Might not.

Not sure you'll be happy with ideas other than your own. Do you have a spouse? What do they want?

Oh -- and start as many threads as you need to keep your thoughts and project organized. Lots of people do that. The threads that are 10,000 posts long aren't very helpful.

One thing at a time.

The outside of your house is very nice. Please don't paint the stone detail. (That's a very dated approach.) Change the light fixtures. It does like a new set of stairs might be an improvement. Loads of colors you could paint the rest!

I would ask a tree person to stop by and assess the health and safety of your big trees because they are very close to your house and they are very surrounded by concrete.

Please no gray in that warm room.

A whole home color palette doesn't mean that you will choose one color for your entire home, but like coordinating an outfit, the colors used in each room will tie that room to the rooms that are next to it.

Most of us have colors we love. My sister loves fall colors, muted moss greens, orange reds and golds.

I love purples, teal and reds.

The idea of selecting a whole home color palette is to select a neutral color family that works with the things that you can't afford to change or don't want to change and the colors that you love (colors found in your art and décor). Then you pick a white that works well with your neutral and then you decide how and where you want to incorporate your colors.

In the home below you can see where the colors move from green to purple with a room in the middle that has both colors. They chose a white that works with both of their main colors for all the walls.

This home carried the colors from the main living area into the bedrooms and bathroom using wall color.

You might look at placing a sofa or sectional facing the fireplace, then if having a TV, placing it on the left or right of the fireplace over a console. You might want to place the sofa facing the fireplace, about halfway in the room. This way, you would have room behind the sofa to do a smaller seating area if you wanted.
