Kiddo is moving in another couple of weeks, and this is the chair we're jokingly fighting over. "A" complained that the one I had in the office is not comfortable, so we bought this one with a higher back. They love it, and they are actually gaming in this chair when they're in there. I'm going to buy them a new one and have it mailed to their new place as a house warming gift ;)

FWIW, I've been using a vintage chair like this for years - adjustable back, height, etc. - the back is springy, not rigid.

Then my son gifted me a very fancy office chair with arms and adjustable everything, but after a couple of weeks, my back and neck started hurting - a lot, so I wound up switching back to my vintage task chair, and my back and neck started feeling better immediately.

It forces me to sit up straight, which is definitely better for my spine.

I don’t work at a desk all day, just to do personal affairs, sort, and surf. I got this chair from ikea.

It’s basic! No wheels, which works for me. and while it is not cushy, it is supportive and has me sitting up straight. The circle bar is a nice perch for my feet. So even though it looks bare-bones, it is quite comfortable. $89 at ikea. And I never worry about vinyl or fabric tearing or shredding or peeling.

Kaths, what I've done is go to Staples and sit in them. And hopefully the one that feels best is part of that months special.

I've had a couple over the years and couldn't tell you which brand. I have not spent the kinds of dollars they ask for something like Temper-pedic brand although I've been tempted.

Same with DH. He claimed the built in desk in this office and that was fine with me, I have my desk set up to look out the garden window for the view - and I can see who's driving in our driveway too. He doesn't really sit still long enough for it to matter to him.

I have to watch sizing. The 'His' chair he has wouldn't work for me for long periods of time. Now that I'm thinking about it, the chair I'm using right now I didn't buy, or at least didn't buy for me. It was my mother's computer chair that I brought here when I emptied her senior apartment. Decidedly smaller than the standard office chair and it fits me fine. Seat from back of knees to lumbar area is important. So is height from feet on floor to seated, although most of them adjust in that area.

Mine really needs to be on castors. I do have one straight backed chair with arms that is comfortable I've used at my desk in the past but doesn't roll. I am up down, up down from my desk while keeping track of things possibly cooking in my kitchen or appliances running in my laundry room close by. Hard on flooring otherwise.

Office chair comfort seems so dependent on height and body shape that it seems necessary to me to try them out in person. A chair with multiple adjustment options would be ideal.

Alisande found a La-z-boy office chair @ Staples, so I copied her, & purchased one too. Kind of like this one...only tan faux leather I think it's been at least 7 years. It's comfy.

That's a lot like mine but I didn't spend nearly that amount.

Beware of a chair without arm rests if you are planning on spending a good deal of time in the chair. Those without arms used to be called "task" chairs, with the idea that they are for short time use to do a task, but not for spending much time in. You cant really get comfortable to do anything that requires time, such as editing photos, or writing, or doing research.

In order to use the computer you need to have your arms elevated up to reach the keyboard or to maniupulate the mouse, and it can get pretty tiring There is a reason that comfortable chairs have arm rests, because there is much need to rest the arms after a short time .

If you are one who leans forward and rests your elbows on the desk and not for long stretches, you might find it to be acceptable.

I have an old military task chair that I recovered and quite like the idea of. But, it would never be comfortable as a chair to use for leisure time such as reading the news, or answering email.

I must be an odd one, claudia, because it was the armrests that were making my back and neck uncomfortable. My desk has a roll out shelf for my keyboard & mouse a couple of inches below the main surface - almost exactly at elbow height, so maybe that makes a difference?

I just use a dining chair.
