I seem to recall you said you ordered your kentiana from GHW. If so, I got mine from there also. Mine arrived rather small, pale greenish yellow leaves, no margins, and did very little at first. Then, this spring, it took off like mad. The leaves grow in a rusty gold color, and they've been getting the nice dark margins. The leaf color is a sort of olive green with a red blush. It's probably still too small to bloom, but I swear the thing has more than tripled in size. You can barely see the pale leaves anymore; they've been buried by all the new leaves. As for whether or not it's kentiana, I'm going by the name I got it as, which is kentiana, until it blooms. There's supposed to be a way to tell for sure based on the flowers.

Fawnridge, finished going over each pic..All I can say is WOW..your palms and Crotons are truly amazing..All your plants are. I notice a body of water nearby..Is it a man-made lake? I've a few questions if you don't mind.. In the second pic on page one, what is the plant with pink flowers? Nearby is a Bromeliad, gorgeous.. In pic 3, there's a plant w/red spikes/flowers, is it Ginger? Your Fan palms are huge and beautiful. The trunks amazing. Huge trunks makes a palm..You'd laugh at my pitiful palms growing in pots..LOL I also love your Ctantanth..spellings wrong, but you know which plant I mean...? relative of Calathea. Your pathway looks serene, peaceful, heading into the unknown.. On the first page, pic 14, what's the white flowered plant? In pic 15, a palm is growing. The bottom looks like a fan, the top different..what is it? Is the tree Acacia or Mimosa? maybe something else.. Also, is that a fig on pic 21? Something in the Ficus family? Your Song of India and Bromeliads are huge, vibrant colors..On page 2. Pic 6 and 7, there's a little plant with yellow flowers..is it Crown of Thorns/Euphorbia? Your Alamanda, think that's what it is, on the last pic of page 2, is stunning. Fawnridge, you're lucky living where you do, count your blessings..I was born in the wrong state..LOL..My parents didn't like flowers or growing any type of plant, so I don't know where my love of growing greens derived. There's one plant, page 1, pic 17, that may or may not be, I can't recall its botanical name; the common name is Caricature Vine or something similar..Would you happen to know its name? Hi Kimberly, good to know you. I can't think of any threads other than this one where I've posted pics of so many of my ags. By 'adding more of the reds', you are talking about some of the Thai and Indonesian hybrids and possibly some from India. I've collected most of them available in stores in my area, but I haven't ordered from non-US sources. I've been searching for old, vintage hybrids and species for decades, but I've picked up many of the newer hybrids because of their leaf colors and patterns. The smaller, beautifully colored ags you're speaking of came originally from hybridizers working with A. rotundum, a reddish-colored species that is extremely hard to grow. So some of the first red hybrids were difficult and didn't make good marketable plants. But over the years that trait was mostly bred out of the hybrids and they're fairly easy to grow now if you have enough humidity. They are a bit more touchy than the multitude of newer hybrids bred without rotundum background, these ags are usually larger and have beautiful patterns in shades of green, silver, gray, white, cream and yellow. They can also have white or pink petioles. Do you have a list of the ags you have? If some are unidentified, I might be able to name them if you'll post some pics. i root tips of ags in water and then xfer to perlite and then to light mix. they take anywhere from 4-8 or even 10 weeks to root. when kept on heat mat and tented for high humidity they root much faster...about 5-6wks. but yours already had roots, so putting it in water would rot them... from my experience with rooting - this stem will just rot away unless you put it on a heat mat and keep it on it for sev months tented +hot+moist. but even then it might still rot without leaves. ags are very slow growers, by the way. with 1 leaf it might take 2 months to grow a 2nd one. also the pot is way too big - it should be half of that diameter. cold soil = root rot for ags.
