2009 IRC The maximum riser is 7 3/4" and the minimum tread is 10". Winder treads shall have a minimum tread depth of 10 inches measured between the vertical planes of the foremost projection of adjacent treads at the intersections with the walkline. Winder treads shall have a minimum tread depth of 6 inches at any point within the clear width of the stair. Within any flight of stairs, the largest winder tread depth at the walkline shall not exceed the smallest winder tread by more than 3/8 inch. Walkline The walkline across winder treads shall be concentric to the curved direction of travel through the turn and located 12 inches from the side where the winders are narrower. The 12-inch dimension shall be measured from the widest point of the clear stair width at the walking surface of the winder. If winders are adjacent within the flight, the point of the widest clear stair width of the adjacent winders shall be used.

@Josie23 Thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to put a sink in the powder room but of course it will have a sink. I was mainly focusing on the master area. The powder room will be about 7.5 feet long x 3.5 feet wide which should be plenty of room for both a toilet and a sink. I read that the minimum area for a powder room is 11 square feet but this will be much larger than that. I have seen some pretty small powder rooms for sure.

We are looking to remodel the main area of our house. Currently the kitchen is in the front of the house with walls. I want to open it up and possibly move the kitchen to the middle. I also thought about creating a hallway at the front door. We would like to have a tv / family room close to the kitchen. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! !

considering 14 ft 8 in across long wall .....you can form L shape instead of U shape that you are attempting. place the fridge to left of sink and eliminate the lower side wall of cabinets. then extend island to 60 in and you still can have 48 in aisle between island and stove . the drawer cabinets in a 60 in island will be nicer as no corner and they will be opposite the sink along with nicer counter there. This 3 walled space is not that connected to living room so having the better island seating makes staying and lingering a little nicer for people . You plan for a day to day seating area in dining room??? its still nice to have a comfortable island in a kitchen this big I think. sometimes people put the sink on the island and place stove and fridge either side of window in which case the island could be even longer if nothing were on side walls.... there are opinions about sinks on islands which has no definite conclusion.....personal choice. first pic shows fridge and stove on a rear wall/sink on island,,,,,,,,2nd pic uses rear wall for sink/fridge and stove likely on a side wall [cant see that part] think about shifting appliances so a nicer island results.....depends on what you wish for the lg space you have.
