Should you match metals throughout the house?
Comments (23)I'm with nini804. We're building now and are coordinating but not matching. It works for us. Our exterior doors will have ORB hardware. I haven't had to pick out the interior yet but may got with either ORB or antique pewter. We went with chrome plumbing fixtures in the baths because I like the shine. But in the kitchen I'm pretty sure we'll end up with polished nickel because of the warmer tone (chrome has a bluer tone) that will go with the silver leaf and crystal dining chandelier that's in the room wide open to the kitchen and the bronze light fixtures elsewhere. For that reason we'll probably change out our chrome faucet to stainless since its not made in polished nickel. I love mixing finishes because I love really putting thought into a space. But I can see how it can be overwhelming for a lot of people. It's easy to just pick a finish and go with it. That's why designers get paid the big bucks I guess. I've been up many hours trying to figure out if this goes with that, etc. lol!...See MoreGranite the same throughout the home?
Comments (7)Thanks I was hoping that is what people would say. My builder had lazyitis, the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, and foyer all match in terms of floor/cabs/counters....See MoreIs it strange to have the same mirror throughout the house?
Comments (8)I don't think it would be strange at all. I think repeating a few things you love from room to room gives nice continuity to your house, and also gives you more leeway to mix up other elements without everything looking too hodge podge. If you like frameless beveled mirrors, you might want to check out your local Home Depot and Lowes. I got a very similar mirror to the one you linked to at Home Depot years ago for above our daughter's dresser, and I'm pretty sure they still carry it. I also love the frameless look but have mixed up the shapes from room to room (one similar to the Ballard one, round, and oval)....See MoreUse same flooring throughout house?
Comments (10)I used the same flooring throughout my very small home, and I used vinyl planks which looks like wood, even in the bathroom and kitchen. So, it was seamless (no transition strips into the bedroom and bathrooms etc). It made the home look much larger. Also, you can consider the angle you will have the flooring installed. I followed the lines of the wall, but you can also do it at an angle. You might use 30% more flooring this way, but it is more interesting to the eye and can help make your home look larger. Good luck with your home!...See MoreLyn Nielson
