Granite the same throughout the home?

Finally have the cash to replace the Formica counters in my kitchen and 3 bathrooms. I want to know if I should use the same granite in all the areas?

is it ok to use different materials and colors in each area? i have access to remnants of what goes for at least 100 a square foot but then each room would have different materials. The stone would be free but I would pay labor of course. (A good deal for my area)

Should I just pay normal price and make it all match? I'm in Seattle where you need to get rid of your Formica if you want to sell your home but I'm doing this for my own enjoyment.

I would say mix it up, be different. Get what appeals to you, you live there!

I don't think it has to match in all the bathrooms. Actually some people think it looks "lazy" or commercial to have it all be the same.

Not in my house. I don't even have everything the same for my kitchen counters. If you are doing something for yourself not resale, pick what makes you happy.

Yes, different wood flooring can be used in different rooms, especially if the rooms are not adjoining. I find it more jarring if there are different styles in a home - say, contemporary in a living room and country in the powder room. As long as your room "flow", I say go for it.

Yes, certainly, though since the light will be different in different rooms (due to number/size of windows and orientation) the color might look different from room to room. You occasionally see posts where the homeowner used the gray or greige or beige they loved in their living room that looks pink or purple or yellow or green or baby blue in their back bedroom. Also, the same color may look great at one time of day but not-so-great at a different time due to the changing light. Always test the color(s) you are thinking about using in the actual space(s). A lot of people find it helpful to paint a large foam board that they can move from one wall to another or from one room to another.

If there is enough visual separation between spaces, and especially if there is a door-they don't have to match. They need to work with the room context and with curtains themselves. Metals in a room don't have to match either, even though some look better together, than others.

My bathroom granites are the same but different from the kitchen. The cabinets are also different from the kitchen.

Thanks I was hoping that is what people would say. My builder had lazyitis, the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, and foyer all match in terms of floor/cabs/counters.

Don't have to be the same. In fact sometimes you can find an upgraded variety of granite for a small vanity from a remnant.
