My family and I rent a condo at Hilton Head in the summer and we loved their GE stackable that was in it. You know it takes a beating with renters who don't care and yet we returned this year and I know this is silly but I was looking so forward to using the stackable again. It was so quiet!! They owners had a sign up to use only two tablespoons of detergent and that is what we did and things just got so clean. The only thing negative is that it is so far on the ground to get things out of the washer. I ended up sitting on the floor to pull things out. Maybe you could put a stool in front of it. A friend of mine has a GE largest capacity and she hates it but she thinks if you get a smaller one you are better off because she believes the large capacity contributes to them getting out of balance easily. I've had a problem with my Maytag doing that as well.

I am not an expert, maybe someone else will post that knows more than me. Here is my experience with my set that I put into my bathroom during a remodel: Check your manual or go online to find it. There should be vent length recommendations in the manual. There is also a standard calculation to determine the length of vent pipe you can use. There are several considerations. One, for example, requires that each 90 degree turn = 5 feet of pipe. My max dryer vent pipe was listed as 33' but the actual length is no where near that long. My three 90 degree turns used 15' of vent in the calculation from the start. I have about 13' of actual length to get to the outside wall, so that adds up to 28' run of vent. If you can't make the distances work you may have to get a buster fan that is installed in the pipe to help. Another concern with putting the W/D upstairs is the flooring. Is this stacked set going along a load bearing wall? My set requires this setup. If you put it in the middle of a joist span it will bounce too much. Front loaders create a lot of energy with the high rotations.

IM(H?)O, stacking fulfills the requirement. Local codes may be worded in a way that makes this solution non-compliant, but I wouldn't think so. Will the dryer back to outside wall? If the vent goes immediately to the outside, I don't see a problem. If it takes a more circuitous route, it might.

We love our Bosch 24 inch washer but will need to replace the dryer. The Bosch dryer we have is vented. But Bosch doesn't produce vented dryers anymore. Any recommendations? We love the Bosch washer. We don't love vibration.
