wall color help: all the same or different?

Hello Houzz helpers,

This is the front entryway and adjacent rooms (dining and living, the latter we use as a music room/office) of our 1920s red brick colonial revival home. I’m ready to update the wall color from these beiges to something more colorful but still period-appropriate, along the lines of “transitional” style. I’ve narrowed it down to what I’m calling a sort of ‘colonial sage green’ * for the dining room (see sample color from Erin Napier’s bathroom) and need your input!

What do you think of this green in the dining room? Should we go lighter or darker?
Would you use this green in the entire front entryway and living room or paint those spaces a separate color? Why?

*I chose this color because it picks up on some green elements from the house itself (has green ceramic tile roof) and some of our furnishings (Persian rug in the living room). It's a great color. I'd probably start with the music room and see if I want more. (Of course those arched openings can make it challenging to do different colors room-to-room.)

That color reminds me a bit of BM Saybrook Sage, which I used in a previous house back in 2004 in the formal living room, used as a pool table room.

Are those colors coming back?

Are we all going to be talking about BM Baby Turtle again! ;-)

Hi, I like the yellows like aztec gold and pink shades. 2008 I have bought cuttings and plants of several rainbow colors to enjoy all the shades, are young plants need to grow. Hope my plumie garden will have them all someday. Karen B

I'm kinda shocked people don't "Get this....."!!! The walls WILL NEVER look the same! If you put a gallon in the middle of the room, & turned on a "magic spinning shaker" to evenly coat everything, & then went away for 2 weeks........ Even tho' we know it IS the same "Film of Paint" EVERYWHERE, every "Plane" of color appears different!!! We know the answer why folks! * HUMAN eyes do a lot of "Blending". * Some walls only get half the light relative to it's neighbor. * Color-temperature of Lamp bulbs could be way different than natural sunlight. * Flatter-sheened paints will show a color differenty than a Gloss will. * We KNOW colors will look different in a N-facing bedroom, relative to a S-facing one!! Remember back in High-Scool when in some Science classes.......you'd stare at a shape for a minute, then look at a white wall?!!?!!? >>>>> A completely NEW color is now visible?! 😲🤓🤓🥺 >>>>> What created that new color ......😁👁️?? Waterborne alkyd on trim and latex on walls all in same colour.

Alkyds have a distinct advantage over acrylic based paint for cabinetry or furniture - they dry much harder, without that gumminess that allows items placed on them to stick. If a nick occurs, it can be feathered out and touched up. Latex paints merely gum up your sandpaper. WB Alkyds dust up when sanded like the old fashioned oil version alkyds. If painted surfaces come in contact, they will not stick together.

2 Different Grout Colors - Same Tile, Same Room

TEC makes a grout colorant that you can use over the existing grout if you want to change the color. Then use the lighter grout on the backsplash wall.

I love Baby Turtle but then again I love greens, tans and reds.

I picked 2 colors (BM Fernwood Green and Wilmington Tan) and basically alternated using them in different rooms. I used the Wilmington Tan in the hallways with the Fernwood Green on my ceilings in the halls and reversed those two in the living/dining/kitchen and our master bedroom.

It's an old home with classic furnishings. You can paint it any darn color you want regardless of what's in fashion. :)
