help with furniture layout long narrow living room
We just bought a 1970s ranch. I need help with furniture placement for living once we redo the kitchen/floors. The front door opens to living room. The long bar will have countertop that matches kitchen. Do I add bar stools to living room side? Or no barstools? I’m not good with furniture placement. Room is 15x22. First picture is as soon as you enter. Last is a better view of size. Pictures added to help. Excuse the mess… these are before we moved in.

Comments (13)Sorry, Kim, I was typing at the same time you were, but that arrangement that you have now, is what I suggested below. I really like it. if that wood piece needs to be there, can you put your TV on the long wall where your couch is, put couch in front of windows and chair on the right side of your couch as you are looking at it. May even have room for another chair.....with end tables, coffee table and lamps your room will look good. I assume you will be putting some sort of curtain/drape on the windows. Comments (7)I see. I wasn't sure where the other door way was. Yes, I think two sofas and two armchairs would work. The problem with sectionals is that they really don't seat as many people as you would think, because adults generally like to have their own "space" and no one wants to sit in the corner or the middle. Ideally you would want the walk way from the the door to the sun room door clear. But because of the off center placement of the fire place and your need to seat larger groups, you may have to bend the rules a bit. How about scooting the window sofa up a bit, to get a more centered arrangement? Sofa tables and consoles are great to stash ottomans underneath for extra casual seating. How would something like this work for you? It will comfortably seat six adults, eight snugly and nine if you count the ottoman as a casual perch. When shopping for sofas, look for a bench seats. Comments (5)Thanks! I think that's along the lines of what I was thinking, but looking for a comfier arrangement. I'd like the seating to be more set up for TV watching, as we already have another room with a fireplace that is set up in a more conversational layout for entertaining. And I'd like a longer couch but have trouble with the windows being in the way. Sometimes I'm afraid if the couch is off center between those windows it feels strange to me (particularly when putting art on the wall), but if the couch isn't scooched over then I have trouble with the zones working out. I don't think I'd want an oval table - that seems more dining to me? I already have a dining room and a breakfast nook. But maybe an oval is all that will fit there - it's hard for me to tell what kind of dimensions that space can handle....See Morelayout help with long narrow living room

Another question, will you paint the paneling?The color scheme in this room is perfect with brick. I'm guessing the wall color is something like B.M. Gray Owl. You could easily use this one color throughout the house.

9 months agoWe did just start painting the paneling! We did SW Alabaster with pure white trim. This picture is before we cut in or did more than one coat. Lots of change coming. Extending the kitchen and dining 10ft back. So the kitchen will be a complete gut starting Monday. This is the only one I could find but it’s from the dining angle. I’ll take more pictures today from kitchen angle and you can see the updated paint.

9 months agoAnd if you do go forward, I caution you not to use a white paint as trim. What @tracefloyd and I see is the yellow undertone. If you abut it with white, the yellow in the walls is going to be more pronounced. Add into the mix, if you have a window facing south, it will really stir the pot with its very warm light.
My suggestion is to paint the trim Alabaster in a gloss finish. I hope you consider my advice. Here is alabaster on alabaster. For the ceiling, cut the wall paint about 50%.
