Design Dilemma living room Furniture

Furniture layout in long, narrow living room

We have renovated our living room and took down some wing walls and now decorating the long, narrow living room. Measurements are approximately 26 in long by 12 inch wide. We are using our current couch and chair until we decide what to buy. We're thinking a sectional. But having a hard time visualizing what to do with the "leftover" space. Also, should we put two side chairs next to the wood piece on the focal wall? Disregard the food on the buffet, our kitchen hasn't been installed yet.

The space in these pics was 30’ x 10’ with both DR and LR so IMO your space could easily handle 2 sitting areas and would be a much better use of space and no sectional that will only magnify the odd shape

Is this space intended to be used as a dining room as well, or is there a separate dining room. I also assume the door will be the main point on entry. If the door is main entry and this space is just a living room then I would place an open book case to serve as a landing pad. Other corner across for door is other location. I would place TV console on wall same side as door. Float the sofa directly across from the TV and use the are behind as your walkway. should be room for a chair or two 90 degrees from sofa.

Will you watch TV here? You could do a grouping of four small chairs at the fireplace and a TV corner left of the traffic lane to the kitchen and opposite the FP. Workable seating could be a small scale or apartment sized chaise sofa with a reversible chaise. This Jane Loft sofa is only 82" wide and the chaise portion can be shifted from left to right for more flexibility in arranging. Locate TV on the stairwell wall with the sofa floating facing it. The long wall can feature an art gallery and console or credenza under it.

Thanks! I think that's along the lines of what I was thinking, but looking for a comfier arrangement. I'd like the seating to be more set up for TV watching, as we already have another room with a fireplace that is set up in a more conversational layout for entertaining. And I'd like a longer couch but have trouble with the windows being in the way. Sometimes I'm afraid if the couch is off center between those windows it feels strange to me (particularly when putting art on the wall), but if the couch isn't scooched over then I have trouble with the zones working out. I don't think I'd want an oval table - that seems more dining to me? I already have a dining room and a breakfast nook. But maybe an oval is all that will fit there - it's hard for me to tell what kind of dimensions that space can handle.

Great thanks. My suggestion would be the TV wall mounted with a console at least 25% wider under it. Sofa or sofa with chaise facing it with chaise on window wall. Swivel chair to right of slider. Look at furniture that is streamlined not large and puffy. Your coffee table looks to be a good size for this configuration. End table next to swivel chair, Floor lamp in corner of sofa/chaise. Before purchasing Cut the pieces to scale from paper and layout them out on your floor plan. If that is hard to visualize you can tape off the the pieces on the floor with painters tape to visualize

Is this better? Just wasn't sure what the rules are about putting a couch in front of a window. It will have blinds eventually.

Sorry, Kim, I was typing at the same time you were, but that arrangement that you have now, is what I suggested below. I really like it.

if that wood piece needs to be there, can you put your TV on the long wall where your couch is, put couch in front of windows and chair on the right side of your couch as you are looking at it. May even have room for another chair.....with end tables, coffee table and lamps your room will look good. I assume you will be putting some sort of curtain/drape on the windows. Your floors look very nice and a rug in front of the couch would give it some color.

Thank you! So my husband said it looked overcrowded when you walk in the house.

It is a buffet that we bought for our dining room but love it as a focal piece. It doesn't have to stay in the living room. I just moved it. Does the couch make it look uninviting? The oversized chair is too big for this space. Would you suggest a sectional if it was this layout?
