It's time for Spam O' the Day again

Recent urgent messages have told me that my account was on hold at both Netflix and BOA. A number of companies have written to say I have a surprise in my inbox; sadly, no surprise messages were sent. Ho Hum. Perhaps it is the hot weather, but the spammers don't seem to be bringing the big guns out such as million dollar lotteries/bequests for me, or naughtily descriptive offers to guys for various medications to improve their love life. Come on, spammers. Entertain me. Your current offerings only rate about two stars out of five.

Back from vacation I ordered some memories with the help of Shutterfly. Two packages expected. First came. A day later I got an email saying in the subj. "your package has arrived". Didn't need to/no time to open it, went to the mail box a few hours later. No package. Went back to the email to say let them know it hadn't been delivered. After hitting open it became obvious this was not from Shutterfly. ARG! I weekly get emails saying "your order is ready" and I just delete...luckily the 10 second open caused me or mine no issues. What's most aggravating is I have a gmail for ordering things so my personal email shouldn't be 'out there' but it clearly is.

The internet thinks I am male and sends me some pretty insulting offers concerning my manhood. Although they also tell me that "Hot Russian Ladies" want to meet me. Oddly enough, they also think I'm an obese woman. I get emails touting some seriously uncomfomfortable-looking shapewear. Today I got two different "UPS package on the way" emails. If something comes, it will either be herbal mystery pills or giant stretchy underwear.

I love your idea Karen! and may copy it for couples and start having dinner parties in honor of the occasion. I guess I am somewhere in between with Valentine's Day. The first year we were together, we mutually agreed that it was a commercial holiday and not to buy gifts. What happened was, when he took his dad grocery shopping, the elder asked him what he was getting me for Valentine's Day and when he said "nothing" the elder made him purchase flowers and candy. What makes it funny is that his dad is so tight and practical with money he squeaks. When he showed up at my door with flowers and candy, my eyes went wide and asked if I misunderstood regarding our deal. That same year, I must have gotten shot in the tush with cupids arrow because I wrote a poem and had it read to him at work in front of his coworkers. I don't know what possessed me. I don't write poems. When I didn't from him all day, I started to worry. LOL He is not one for attention. He said it let him know that we were on the same page. I still think he must have been mortified. We will probably order a carryout and avoid any crowded restaurants. I didn't expect anything or plan anything but he suggested we go to a jewelry store (who could say no to that?that offer doesn't come around often) together Wednesday after we had lunch. We were not "dressed" so to speak but there was a VERY nice, down to Earth young lady transplanted from New Orleans who was kind enough to give us the time of day wonderful service. All of the plastic people ignored us. :) I picked out something unpretentious that I will wear regularly. Happy Valentine's Day Ya'll

Oh, Annececilia, you have precisely nailed the specialness (terrible grammar, I know) as it truly has become something of a family endeavour. Although the wood means different things to all of us, it has bonded us together better than any single thing I could have imagined. The youngest, Tas, has bought a second-hand cargo net to string between trees and is already planning ziplines, ropeladders and platforms. Naomi, my middle daughter, lives nearest the wood and is deeply involved, along with her daughter Phoebe Rosa, (our grand-daughter), making themselves a tipi to stay in (and scavenging timber for a tree-house) while my eldest. Rowan, already a committed gardener, has invested in many green woodworking tools and he, and my sweetheart, Reuben, have made a sawhorse (Champion, the lumber horse) and a pole-lathe with plans afoot to make charcoal, coppicing and other woodsy things. When we have children, I guess we start to think in a longer term than the next week or so and even the idea of 'legacy' has been sneaking into my thinking. Obviously, we have nothing to leave them with apart from their wits and even if we had money and property, I have seen families torn apart by the very things that had been meant to protect them......but a bit of woodland, too small for much and not saleable in parts (by covenant) really is something quite remarkable to sustain our family. Neither Reuben nor I have much of a family ourselves - I was adopted and Reuben's family are no longer alive......so our little dynasty starts with us, really. To to have this project, glueing us all together, is infinitely precious to me. I loved your story of remembrance daffoldils - such a special act of thoughtfulness which resonates every new season - what better celebration of life could we hope for?

Jim I am so glad you have had some memorable hummer experiences this year. The migration is still in full swing and I have three here right now. My last adult male left on Sept 1st. and the last adult female departed about a week ago. I have at least one juvenile male and 2 juvenile females but with the juvies until they start getting some of their adult plumage it is difficult to tell the males from the females. Most of my adult birds this year were strictly feeder birds. They were definitely fast food junkies but once the juvies came on the scene both feeders and flowers were in high use. I have an old clothesline that we cut done to be used in a smaller area for the hummers and they loved perching by the door first thing in the morning after they had breakfast watching and waiting and several would greet me when I walked out the door. If I was replaceing a feeder with a fresh one I always had one come right up to the feeder as I was hanging it back up. They also liked to perch on that line and watch me while I mowed the grass or collected flower seeds. Several times they flew up to me when I was removing dead flower stalks to check out what I was doing. A couple of times I had a female come in so close that I could feel the breeze from her wing flapping against my cheek. Remember to keep those feeders fresh especially when we have had the hot dry temps we had this summer. I never leave a feeder over two days as the nectar will start to ferment and if they do drink it, they can get sick. Often times they will just abandon the feeder. Even if you think all of your hummers have gone for the season, please consider leaving those feeders up for at least 2-3 weeks after your last siting as there are still quite a few migrants north of us that are yet to head south. There are large swarms still in Mich and Wisc. and quite a few swarms still over in Ontario from what I understand. If you can maintain at least one feeder until we get hard freezing temps please consider doing so. There are more and more reports of out of territory migrants showing up all the time. There is a Green-breated Mango Hummingbird that has shown up in Wisconsin whose most northern natural range is Mexico. Here is a picture of the Green-Breasted Mango. There have been Rufous in Ontario, Rufous and Calliopes in Pa. so you never know, a stray, out of range migrant could just as easily show up in NY. They are just the most amazing little creatures and I am so glad to see the growing interest in hummers and including hummer plants in gardens Penny

I did get the Geowood. Aged Amber. I really like it. It's held up great to moisture so far. I have it in my tiny bathroom, even. No thresholds needed. I do have a few scratches, but very few and caused by human error. I read on-line that they can be removed because they haven't gone through the protective layer, but I haven't been bothered enough to do it. This is an in-progress pic, but it will give you an idea.

I've been seeing more bogus stuff purporting to be from Bank of America, Amazon Prime, and other popular accounts - many of which I do not have. It all goes to my junk mail folder, which I check daily because new addresses go there too, since my filter's set to 'high'.

It's called 'phishing' for a reason. Enough people take the bait to make it worthwhile for these scammers. I understand it has become a sort of industry now in some countries.

I have suddenly started getting the phishing emails from Russian IPs. Most are of the "your account has been locked" variety although one was the "I have hacked your account, I saw you on the porn site...." classic. They all have huge attachments (judging from the amount of code that shows in the headers) that I fear contain malware.

I always check the source of the emails and when possible, file an abuse complaint with the IP or domain name server. Doing this has cut the spam down from several a day to just 2-3 per week. But, I am not going to message the Russian entities, thinking that that would just confirm a valid address to them (since I don't know how involved they may be in the spam).

Someone e-mailed me last week and said they have hacked my computer and know my Facebook password. They had a password but not to that account. E-mail then went on to threaten me with deleting all my accounts and blowing up my computer or some such threat if I didn't send $400 in Bit Coins (what ever it is called). I laughed all the way to the 'delete' button.

I won a tool set at Harbour Freight today. I have no idea what this even is. Almost every day there is something I won at Kohls, Marshalls..etc. I never open.

The e-mails that ask for "just a few moments of your time to review" a bunch of products and businesses we don't use nor frequent. Starbucks? Never been there. Uncle Jimmy's Sausage? Never heard of it, and the list goes on and on. Haven't opened nor replied to any of these "requests".

I just got one offering me an Exclusive Special Offer from Costco worth $90. I checked the email address from where it originated...Rodney Swanson @teendreams dot net. Haha, I'm sure that's the source of all of Costco specials. In your teen dreams Rodney.

We keep getting voice mail from some place that wants to talk to us about our Marriott timeshare. I'd guess they want to 'relieve' us of that burden, but we've never bought -- or wanted to buy -- any timeshare.
