Ensuite #2 for bedroom #3 renovation (work-in-progress)
Comments (119)@apple_pie_order We will likely do the laundry room/guest bathroom renovation before we do the blue bathroom for my mother. That way, when we do start working on Mom's bathroom, there will be one she can use. I need to clean up my room. It's got too much junk in the way for her to easily get to the bathroom. My brother using my bathroom is short-term, but I eventually want to add some shelves, possibly cabinets, etc for more storage. I want to have storage for toilet paper, wet wipes, tissues, etc. It's so nice to be able to take a shower whenever I want instead of having to drive over to my friend's house and hope no one is doing laundry or having people wanting to come in to use the bathroom while I'm showering (friend only has the one bathroom). I made a To Do list for the bathroom (in no particular order) Remove tools & junk-- find storage for them Clean up floor & counter Install robe hook Move or trim peg on board with pegs that interfere with door Fix cut joist under the tub Cut access panel under tub from closet Change out overflow & drain for tub Replace faucet & lavatory drain Replace S-trap with either in-wall vent stack or AAV Open up wall behind toilet to examine any pipes (possibly merge tub vent) Sand & paint vanity Install new hinges & pulls on vanity + magnets to help doors stay shut Sand & paint dresser Install new knobs on dresser Sand & paint door Put mirror on door Sand & paint rough wood trim all around room (door, window, ceiling, etc) Replace trim on vanity with pvc cove moulding Install beadboard, chair rail, and baseboards Replace triple toggle switch with new 20Amp triple rocker switch Replace old GFCI with new Add light switch next to GFCI for vanity light Install vanity light Install light over shower Install bracket to hold mop and broom Build new mirror frame & install new mirror above vanity Figure out some storage for bath slippers It seems like a long list, but hopefully it won't be so bad. I'm thinking shelves or cabinets over the laundry cart will help. I might make cabinets though. It can start as shelves and I can add wood to make them in to cabinets. I was going to raise the toilet up with a platform, but it seems to be ok for now. I might add a small grab bar later on to help me get up if I start to have problems....See MoreBedroom in Progress
Comments (44)My new to me headboard was damaged in shipping but the Etsy seller handled it like a real class act. But, in the interim, I ordered a replacement from another Etsy seller and I am holding my breath that the new new one will arrive in "normal vintage, with some wear" condition :-) But, here's some progress shots (and a bonus of my "ladies office" that I carved out at the top of the stair landing) As wide a shot as one can get in a tiny room (less than 10x10 with a wall of windows that get the morning light) That's the PBteen Qunicy scallop bedding. I also have a trellis and a floral pattern. The duvet is really there to keep my dog from getting all his dog business on my white Peacock Alley coverlet and to add a little contrast. I am waiting to see what I feel like I need above the bed after the headboard is the same Easton Green Amy Howard lacquer. Of course the current headboard blends right into the SW Naval wall. Here's a tight shot of the bedding: My dresser, which is in the "breezeway" between the bedroom pod and the sitting room trapped behind it: I still need to change the lampshade and properly accessorize it. I have a mirror coming. My bird's nest fern is just there because there's no table in the sitting room and I don't want to forget to water it. And a bonus shot of the office area: It's a CB2 peek-a-boo acrylic console with a vintage Chinese Chippendale chair (with an IKEA sheepskin on it). It is small but it is mighty this office of mine. I love it. There's a great window to the left that overlooks my neighbor's pretty Rose of Sharon tree (but I can't see into his yard). The desk area still needs some accessorizing, hence the tight shot, but so far, I am so very happy with this house. The accent walls really energize me and I love all the color after years of being a slave to neutrals. The wall color is SW Begonia....See MoreSurprise bedroom makeover for mom...
Comments (38)IF it was my room, I'd change out the bedskirt to an aqua color-to ground it more. In fact-I'd purchase a bedspread that has some design in it or a solid in a deeper color than the walls or one of the pillow colors. You could always make a 'throw from her original spread & maybe make the bedskirt from the existing spread. If the mirror is a given..maybe add some gold accents on the nightstand/dresser? Does the gold mirror exist now or are you buying one? Methinks the 3 small prints aren't in scale with the large gold mirror. I noticed a floor mirror in one pic...does she really need 2 mirrors in the room? I'd also change out the lamps on the dresser & go for 2 of the 'buffet sty;e lamps. They'd add some height to that side of the room. Also-consider perhaps adding swag lights over each nightstand, instead of table lamps. I seem to think 3 larger prints (in the pretty colors you've chose) or even a wallhanging (on a pole that matches her nightstands) above the headboard would add some nice drama to the room...maybe no frames at all? A pretty tall floor plant in a big ceramic pot in one of the room's colors-placed in the window corner would breathe some life into the room. Yea on the crown molding! As for the headboard..I'd probably change it out for a taller one that matches her dresser & bureau. Just another opinion. Lastly-maybe think about losing the valances and get the nice woven blinds then hang drapery panels on each side-in one of the room's colors. Whatever your selections....your mom will be blown away when she returns home! Way to go!...See MoreBedrooms with a switched outlet or not?
Comments (4)I like having a switched outlets. The problem in my bedroom is that the switched outlet is in the wrong place; I wish it had been placed next to the bed. To avoid the problem RL mentions, have the electrician wire a duplex outlet with one switched and one unswitched outlet. (I think this is the standard; all my switched outlets were wired this way.) P.S. I installed a Leviton P07-T5632 duplex outlet with USB next to the bed so could charge my phone without needing a charger....See MoreAnna Devane
