Madame Alfred Carrier & Black Spot ?
Comments (45)I'm still having trouble making a decision. I'm strongly considering DEVONIENSIS but worried about the color. In some pics it looks creamy (i.e. yellow) white. I need a pink toned white; the cooler the pink tones the better. CLIMBING CLOTILDE SOUPERT would work in that spot (I've grown her before and she is one of my favorites for repeat bloom, fragrance, beauty-of-flower, and disease resistance), but I'd like something with slightly larger flowers. I also don't know how mum will react to the balling. Not a problem for me but it might be for her. CLIMBING SOUVENIR DE LA MALMAISON is tempting but I'm worried about the repeat bloom. I've read some bad reports on that front. What about CLIMBING WHITE MAMON COCHET? It is definately a cool pink toned white and the fragrant nodding flowers would be a plus in a climber. Is the repeat bloom reliable? How good is the vigor (i.e. will mom have to to wait 5 years for it to mature; I don't even know if she is going to live that long)? And is CWMC resistant to black spot?...See MoreTell me about your healthiest, most disease resistant roses!
Comments (47)Oh no SoFl, I bought Sugar Moon on your recommendation and from smelling it in your garden..... I tried it and I liked it so much that I bought another one. Both of them are staying healthy. I really don't understand why some of the ones that do well here don't necessary do well for you and vice versa.... Maybe it is my salt air or something. I think you said you got rid of Regatta, IT is probably one of my best performers. However, I thought I killed it. Someone told me we should cut back to a third, I think I must have misunderstood and it was to be cut back only a third. For the longest time it was touch and go but it pulled through. Even in this heat it is looking good, no chilli thrips. When it blooms it blooms!!! Another one that I have that is healthy (from disease) is Outta the Blue. However, it does get spider mites If I keep washing it off it is also a big bloomer for me. I also have Dark Desire that is happy - no disease or insects. However, it is super super thorny and not a favorite in the garden. Believe it or not it is an own root . I do love the flowers in a vase if I feel like being attacked by her. I always feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and the apple tree scene. Another one that I would claim that is pretty happy here in Florida is Distant Drums. She too is an own root. I figure it they do own root well here in Florida, it must be a toughie....See MoreRoses Unlimited Rose Order
Comments (18)Moses, I cannot thank you enough for your excellent advice! Thank you for knowledge about Quietness, and proper pruning. I have a feeling I will be ordering another one of her next year, if she is productive as she seems! I am just struggling with trying to figure out where all of these will go! The spot I do have in mind for Quietness will actually be in my front bed, by our large decorative lamp post, which I think will be quite pretty. I am placing my order for Lady Ashe along with Heirloom from Northland Rosarium today, and have a lovely spot of 6ft-high fence reserved for her. That is an excellent idea regarding the French drain. We are lucky to have excellent neighbors as well, so I will see if they have any ideas, as they have mentioned drainage previously. I began the discussion of additional French drains to DH, and he agreed to "look into it." I suppose that if it proves to be too expensive, I could perhaps convert that bed into my cutting garden instead, since it will be filled with a lot of annuals or wetness-tolerant perennials. Since the annuals don't form deep roots, a shorter raised bed might still work, and I could just flip-flop bed placement. So many decisions! Spring is really approaching quite rapidly, for those of us who are doing a lot of garden remodeling, when you think about it!...See MoreSharifa Asma vs. Queen of Sweden & Princess A. of Kent vs. Mary Rose
Comments (92)Hi, Lisa Su, and Friends, I guess I caught rose fever and took to ordering and planning more roses for spring in last few days to add to above orders.... I started looking up your roses and found ones I wished to add to my gardens... so I have ordered a few more also..... Souvenir de la Malmaison, Boubon 1843 rose, strong fragrance...nice big bush w/big blooms....for my femce border... Clotilde Soupert, polyantha , nearly thornless, strong moderate fragrance...actually may be a small rose that blooms in intense clusters like The Fairy...for my front hillside ground cover... And I’m planning on adding China Doll polyantha and Elegant Fairy Tale Roses to lower part of back yard hill, waiting for them to come available to order.... Oh, to plan my dream gardens. I now am up to 88 roses... roses in front yard...roses down side of house and lining back yard and some on hill by spring.... 20 new roses so far coming to plant....fun..fun.... Soon to sleep...per chance to dream...of roses...roses...roses.... oh, my! Post your photos, too? What are you favorites to have this spring? Happy Gardening! Kitty...See Morelibrarian_gardner_8b_pnw
